Healthy Avocado Toast Recipes
Basic Avocado Toast:
Here’s your starting point!
Toast with smashed avocado and a dash of salt and pepper.
Avocado Toast Topped with Fried Eggs:
Top your basic avocado toast with a fried egg!
This is one of my favorite quick breakfasts – it’s filling and satisfying, yet so simple.
Hummus Avocado Toast:
Swirl hummus in with your mashed avocado, then drizzle with olive oil (optional).
I also love this with a flavored hummus, like roasted red pepper or garlic. It’s so easy to add flavor and creaminess without any extra effort!
Arugula & Goat Cheese Toast:
Top your avocado toast with a handful of arugula, crumbled goat cheese (or feta), and a squeeze of lemon. Spicy, creamy, and tart lemony goodness!
This would also be awesome with a fried egg on top (as would just about any avocado toast, come to think of it)!
Black Bean & Salsa:
Top your avocado toast with salsa, black beans, and cilantro.
The black beans add protein and fiber, while salsa and cilantro add a Mexican flair. 🙂
Citrus & Mint:
Top your avocado toast with segmented orange and grapefruit and chopped fresh mint.
I love the combination of juicy, tart citrus with creamy avocado and mint – it’s so refreshing!
Tuna Avocado Toast:
Mix drained canned tuna into the avocado, then top with a squeeze of lemon.
This makes a delicious protein-packed lunch, and a yummy alternative to traditional tuna salad.
Strawberry Balsamic Avocado Toast:
Toss sliced strawberries with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar, then pile on top of your avocado toast!
The unexpected combination of strawberries and avocados works really well, especially with the rich tartness of balsamic vinegar.
Curried Avocado Toast:
Mix a few dashes of curry powder with avocado, then top with chickpeas, sliced red onion, and cilantro.
I love the earthy spiciness of curry with the avocado toast – and this is made even more satisfying with chickpeas and the freshness of onion and cilantro! It’s one of my favorite creative avocado toasts.
Mediterranean Toppings:
Top your avocado toast with chickpeas, tomatoes, crumbled feta cheese, and chopped fresh basil. Who doesn’t love a little feta and tomato action, right?
It’s like a more filling caprese salad, thanks to the protein-packed chickpeas.
Smoked Salmon Avocado Toast:
Top your avocado toast with smoked salmon, sliced red onion, capers, dill, and a squeeze of lemon.
This is perfect for a weekend brunch – smoked salmon always feels so fancy! Fresh dill, tangy lemon, sharp red onions, and salty, briny capers give it a good balance of flavor.
Chocolate Avocado Toast:
Mix one tablespoon cocoa powder and 1-2 teaspoons maple syrup into 1/2 a mashed avocado; top with berries.
This one is so delicious – almost like chocolate pudding on toast.
Trust me on this one and give it a shot when you’re in the mood for something sweet. It would make an awesome satisfying but fun afternoon snack!
What’s the best bread to use?
I love using seedy whole wheat bread for avocado toast, since it tends to be more flavorful and has a fun texture. Plus, it’s packed with nutrients!
But crusty french or brioche bread has a great texture for toast, too.
You can’t really go wrong with any type of bread. It all depends on your preference!
How to know when avocados are ripe?
Give your avocado a light squeeze.
If it’s somewhat firm with a bit of give (but not too much), then it’s probably ready to use!
Too much give/softness means the avocado is probably overripe, but you can cut it open and check to make sure it isn’t brown inside.
Once avocados are just about ripe, store them in the fridge to slow the ripening process until you’re ready to use them. But don’t wait too long!

What if my avocados aren’t ripe yet?
You can get an avocado to ripen quicker by storing it alongside a piece of fruit – like a banana or apple – inside a paper bag on the counter.
These plants release a plant hormone called ethylene that naturally helps with ripening.
I hope you try some of these fun healthy avocado toast toppings and let me know which ones you like!
