Back to Running!

Goooood morning! Has this week flown by for anyone else?

I spent all day yesterday getting a ton of work done — love super productive days like that! I took a break for a short walk in the afternoon, and then also hit up my favorite power yoga class at Franklin Street Yoga at 5:45. It was an awesome class — my legs are feeling fully recovered from the Tobacco Road Half Marathon! And speaking of, they posted official race photos! Apparently they only got one of me — I look a little pained, but nothing too bad. ;) I was attempting to smile and give a thumbs up sign!

Compression sleeves are sexy

For lunch yesterday, I rocked one of my favorites — SARDINES! I know, cue “ewwwww.” Matt is super grossed out by sardines so I eat them when he’s not home. ;)

Sardines are awesome for you — lots of omega 3’s! I mashed them up with some garlicky olive oil, lemon juice, and dijon mustard, and then threw the mixture on top of a salad.

In the salad, I had mixed greens, some awesome spinach from a farmers market we had at school the other day (I forgot how good real spinach — e.g. not baby spinach — is! I always buy baby), green peppers, sprouts, and some salt and pepper.

Grapes on the side:

And I also ate some hummus and crackers while I was making the salad, because I waited too long to make lunch and was starved. :)

I also enjoyed a smoothie in the afternoon, since it’s summer outside and all.

Obsessed with my Hidden Veggie Cherry Lemon Smoothie (click for recipe). So good!

In other news, this morning marked my return to running!

It was a bit humid, but overall a nice morning for a run, except that it was pitch black when Elle and I met up at 6:45. Stupid daylight savings!

We ran 4.3 hilly miles in about 39 minutes. My legs felt good — happy to be back running again! I used the run as an opportunity to try out some fun New Balance gear (that they sent me awhile ago as part of the Reach the Beach Relay sponsorship). I am in LOVE with this shirt!

It’s SUPER lightweight (almost feels silky?) and nice and cool — perfect for humid/hot weather. Plus, it’s cute! Form fitting but not tight — perfect. I can’t stand running shirts that are too tight. I actually might buy it in white, too! I’m also in love with this shirt that they sent me, which I wore during my half marathon Sunday — amazingly comfy the whole time.

I also rocked the shoes that New Balance sent me this morning — they have hot pink laces (as you can see above in the watch picture) and I love the soles, which are neon yellow and hot pink.

They were comfy! My old shoes are super worn out so I think I will switch to these from now on… I’ll wear them a few more times for short runs to make sure they are okay before trying them on a longer run.

Anyway, busy day ahead. Off to school I go! Happy Thursday. :)

Love the shirt and shoes! I think bright colored runners are the best :)

    Holy fun shoes! :)

Sardines are the best! Also, I have those exact same compression sleeves – so dorky but so worth it.

I really like the last pic you posted showing off the soles of the new shoes! Super creative and cute! :)

What kind of shoes are those??? Love them!

I just emailed my contact to ask because I couldn’t find them on the website – apparently they are the New Balance 870v2 – but unfortunately they don’t hit stores until June/July! I got a sneak preview :)

I was wondering the same thing! What kind of shoe are they? (eg. minimalist/stability/neutral) and what were you wearing previously? I’m having a big shoe issue right now and am on the quest for some different shoes. I can’t wait to seek these guys out and try them when they come out!

I asked New Balance and they said it has a slight amount of support – best for neutral/slight pronators. Before I was wearing the Brooks Adrenaline – I’m sticking with those until I do my 10 miler in a few weeks, I think – I’m nervous about switching right before a long race. My best advice for you would be to go to a running store and ask them to analyze your gait/recommend a shoe based on that. That’s what I did!

I LOVE sardines! I remember eating them with my Dad when I was a kid. My husband thinks they are gross as well and every time I eat them he says “can you go in the other room” LOL! One of my daughters has also inherited the love of them so she eats them with me :) Love them-straight out of the can!

Loving the new shoes and shirt! I am doing a 5K this weekend(nothing compared to your races) and I freaking out. I workout daily and run some. I just need some tips on what I need to do to prepare and keep me going and not to give up!! Thanks!! :)

Don’t freak out! If you’ve been working out daily and running at least occasionally you will be totally fine. Just remember to keep your mental game on par – you saw what a difference it made for me in my race! I usually just remind myself that feeling tired for a little while will be VERY worth feeling accomplished and happy once I finish. :) You can do this – good luck!

Thanks so much, Anne! I will let you know how it goes! I am not going to give up although I may feel like it. I will push throught it. I want to run the whole thing and not walk at all. I have to do this!!! :) You really talked yourself through yours. Great time btw!!

Sardines! Yuck–my dad tried to feed my husband and I them last night.

PS we just got married at a winery in virginia! We live up here–he’s a marine. Let me know if you’re up here again!

That shirt looks like the perfect running shirt! I’m in need of some new ones big time, thanks for the suggestions!

  10. 19

I love the bottom of your shoes! So cool! Haha and I like sardines and anchovies but most people are totally grossed out by them.

  11. 20

totally agree with Alyssa (above). I’m also in need of some new running shirts and these look great. Quick question – what size are you wearing in that shirt? I’m between 6 & 8 (S&M) and like you, can’t stand when running shirts are too tight. Appreciate your feedback (and your blog!)

  12. 22

I actually just received that same shirt from New Balance at an event with Harley Pasternak and New Balance’s new minimus shoe. I love the bright pink color and the fit of the shirt! I may have to go buy it in other colors — some girls got the black and purple one. It’s so hard for me to find running/workout shirts that are comfortable/not too short/ etc. I love this one!

  13. 25

I’m a sucker for colorful, pretty shoes. I know you aren’t supposed to buy running shoes based on looks but that’s what draws you in! :)

  14. 27

I love sardines too, but I like them paced in mustard. They are full of good stuff. Talk about peweeee, my husband likes sardines and crackers and beer together. Weeee.
I love the soles on your shoes.

  15. 28

I have never tried sardines, It seems as though people love them or hate them.. Hmmm I think I will hold off on trying the for a little while :) oh and the bottom of your shoes are very cool! Who doesn’t love a pop of color!

  16. 29

I think being an RD makes sardines taste even better :)

Looking good Anne! I’m glad you’re back on your feet and feeling less achy.

Btw, I nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award. As a new blogger and runner, your blog has really been inspiring. Thank you so much! For more information about the award, check out my post here!
