Happy Wednesday, my friends!

I’m proud because I dragged myself out of bed yesterday and to the track – in the RAIN. Full disclosure is that it wasn’t raining when I got up and got dressed, and by the time it started, I was already ready to go and walking out the door – bailing at that point seemed silly. 😉

As always, what seemed like a terrible idea while I was tucked in bed quickly became an awesome idea once I made it out there and saw my track buddies. Everyone was in good spirits because rain meant that it wasn’t snowing. 😉

rainy track workout

Our rainy track workout consisted of the following:

  • Warm up jog (I did about a half mile)
  • 2000m (5 laps) at tempo pace (tough but not so hard you can’t maintain it)
  • rest/walk/jog 2 mins
  • 1600m (4 laps) at tempo pace
  • rest/walk/jog 2 mins
  • 1200m (3 laps) at tempo pace
  • rest/walk/jog 2 mins
  • 800m (2 laps) at tempo pace
  • Cool down jog (I did about 3/4 mile)

Whew! As usual, my watch only includes the workout portion of the run – not my warm up or cool down. I ran next to one of my track buddies and we stayed really consistent the whole time on pace (roughly 7:40 to 7:45 min/miles), which was great. We also chatted a bit which made the laps go by more quickly (and added an extra challenge)!

Everyone was fascinated by my Seattle tights from Brooks with the weather-stripping on the thighs! (Full review of the tights in this recent post: how to dress for running in the rain.)

My legs were still a little tired from my weekend running extravaganza, but I took a rest day Monday so that definitely helped. As for today, it’s all about the lunchtime yoga! 🙂 Can’t wait.

Random side note from this rainy week: I discovered the most awesome pair of rain boots! My friend Chelsea was wearing these rain boots the other day when I saw her and they were so cute I immediately went online and bought myself a pair. They are Sperry’s and look like normal nice leather boots (I love the side buckle) but they are waterproof – amazing. Perfect for wearing to client meetings or work because you still look professional – but this way you aren’t messing up your actual leather boots! Super comfy, too. Just wanted to share. 🙂 Thanks for the great find, Chelsea!

On the food front, I’m obsessed with a salad I discovered recently at Mom’s Organic Market – it’s a chopped salad with grains, kale, beans, roasted hearts of palm, grated cheese, and all sorts of other goodness. So good! Makes an easy packed lunch, too. I like their creamy vegan dressing a lot – no idea what’s in it but I think lots of garlic and potentially cashews? I packed half a lemon on the side because lemon juice makes all salads more delicious: proven fact.

To enjoy on the side: guac + crackers. Always a winning combo.

As for breakfasts this week? You guessed it: my Flour Free Breakfast Pancake. Obsessed – it’s so delicious! I topped it with some blackberries and sprouted watermelon seeds this time around.

And now, it’s back to work! I have a busy day of AnneTheRD clients and I’m also working on a first draft of the promo website for the new intuitive eating program I’m creating with Alex and Rachael. Stay tuned! 🙂

Before I go, I wanted to note that this is National Eating Disorder Awareness (NEDA) Week. As a dietitian who has worked with clients struggling with varying degrees of disordered eating, I’m very passionate about helping others improve their relationships with food. If you’d like to get involved in raising awareness of eating disorders, or need help of your own, please check out the NEDA website. My friend Gena also wrote a great NEDA post earlier this week entitled “Five Questions to Ask About Your Relationship with Food.” <3

Those boots-- I NEED a pair!! A friend of mine once spoke at a NEDA conference and I was able to hear it. Those stories are powerful.

I love those boots! Just wish they went with scrubs :-) LOL As an eating disorder survivor, NEDA always means a lot to me, even if I don't speak publicly about it (very few people IRL know my story). I'm so glad you're putting the word out this week. Healing and restoration are so very important for all those struggling with any kind of disordered eating. Keep up the good work!
