Hello, friends! Can I get a TGIF?! 🙂 Before I get cracking, I wanted to share that I have updated the Winter Shape Up landing page with the week 2 meal plan! Grocery shopping lists will also be up shortly. Happy shopping, and keep those updates coming through Sunday over on the week 1 meal plan page to enter into the giveaway courtesy of week 1 sponsor Sabra!

Anyway! I’m wrapping up work now and looking forward to the weekend! My Friday got off to a great start because this morning I was treated to this lovely view:

I was up and out the door at 6:30 a.m. for a run with my friends Sokphal and Mary. I’m excited to see it’s starting to get a little lighter out by that hour now! Spring… you can’t get here soon enough!

The ladies and I ran down towards Key Bridge in anticipation of a pretty sunrise. We were correct!

The snow/ice on the river was so cool looking.

Since it was so pretty out, we decided to keep running along the water. We ran through Georgetown and then down to the waterfront to enjoy the views. Blurry action shot:

We stopped a couple times for photos; as part of my Run Happy Ambassadorship with Brooks, they sent me a cool new jacket this month – isn’t it cute? It’s part of Brooks’ new PureProject line of apparel that I got a sneak preview of at the event in NYC with them last fall. There’s a big emphasis not only on function but also style, which I love. Cute enough to wear while out doing errands, too! It’s also super reflective, wind and water resistant, and has two front vertical zip pockets and one back zip pocket. Love all the storage! Really comfortable to run in as well.

The girls and I agreed the jacket has almost a snowboard type style look to it! So creative.

From the waterfront, we decided to make our way past Lincoln to check out the view. The sky was such a pretty color behind Lincoln!

The ladies:

And here we are with our new besties, a group of Army guys who were out on a long ruck march (e.g. walking forever with really heavy backpacks as training). We were pretty much the only people out there this morning and one of the guys approached us while we were taking selfies and said they were at mile 12 (yes, by 7 a.m. – wow) of their ruck march and would we take a photo with them? Sure, why not. Too funny.

From there, we headed over Memorial Bridge, with more spectacular views behind us. This was one of the best sunrises I’ve seen in quite awhile! As I always say, it made that early alarm clock totally worthwhile. 🙂

Up the hill to Iwo Jima…

And then home. Great run with great company! It was also in the low 30’s which seriously felt balmy compared to what we’ve been running in. Such a nice change! We ended up covering 6.5 miles at a good clip – about 56 minutes.

I’ll leave you with a recap of this week’s workouts (I forgot to share this last week – oops!):

  • Saturday: 1.5 hour vinyasa power flow class at Franklin Street Yoga in Chapel Hill
  • Sunday: 7 mile run with Matt in Winston-Salem, NC
  • Monday: 45 minute swim (alternating backstroke, freestyle, breaststroke)
  • Tuesday: 55 minute kickboxing class at Nova MMA
  • Wednesday: 5 mile treadmill run + Gina’s plank burner from Winter Shape Up
  • Thursday: rest
  • Friday: 6.5 mile run
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Oh my gosh, Anne! I get so jealous every time I look at your pics. D.C. is my absolute favorite place to visit and would be my first choice of a place to live. I get to visit every year with my 8th graders, but never have time for any running in D.C. :(

I've seen those SAME guys out during my morning run. They are hardcore and so are you ladies : ) Love the various workouts you have in a week, I bet it keeps you from getting bored and left feeling balanced.

Don't you just love sunrise. OMG the pictures are beautiful. My favorite time of the day. BTW. I would have to have a doctor's appointment in Atlanta during the snow storm. I was one of the ones stuck on the expressway. 12 hours to get home. Did I ever have to pee
