GOTR Practice 5k + Today’s Packed Lunch

Hi friends! It’s been all about the running over here lately – the weather has been so lovely!

I was working from home yesterday and took advantage of the beautiful day by taking an afternoon run break with my friend Karen. It was so warm in the sun that I met up with her in shorts and a tank. Shorts and a tank, in November?! Crazy, right?

We had a great run, as always, chatting away the whole time and enjoying the views.

5 miles went by way too fast!

But luckily, I had more running to do, because after stretching out and saying goodbye to Karen, I raced right over to Girls on the Run (GOTR) practice! As I’ve mentioned before, I’m coaching GOTR this fall, and we did a practice 5k with the girls yesterday at the high school track next door to their school (normally we run in a pretty little park at the elementary school). It was quite big time over there with all the high school boys running too! 😉

I’m super proud of the girls – everyone made it the whole 5k! Each girl got a popsicle stick every 3 laps so they could keep track of how far they’d gone, and once they had 4 popsicle sticks (12 laps), they knew they just had to run to the end of the straight part of the track and they’d have finished 3.1 miles! I ran the 5k with one girl and then helped another finish hers out, so ended up doing about 4 miles out there with them.

I’m so glad we had such nice weather for the big day! The official real 5k race is coming up this Sunday, which should be a lot of fun, too. This season flew by!

I decided against going to my track workout this morning because I didn’t know if doing a track workout the morning after doing a total of 9 miles was the smartest idea, but of course this morning I was awake/couldn’t fall back asleep and it was AMAZING out and I was totally bummed I didn’t go. Ohhhhh well.

I’m working downtown today so I packed up a quick lunch and some snacks to enjoy while here – definitely eating lunch outside today to take in this sun! We had some leftover couscous from a dinner last week that I threw some chickpeas into and some baby kale on top of. Plus an unpictured vinaigrette (lemon juice + olive oil + dijon mustard) that I’ll throw on before eating it. Only thing missing was some avocado – we’re all out, the horror!

I also packed a kiwi to snack on with lunch.

As for snacks, I grabbed an unpictured hardboiled egg and a couple of these awesome raw donut holes I picked up from a local spot called South Block. So good!

Have a great day, my friends!

What’s on your lunch/snack menu today?

I love how you are running more now that you are not following a training plan. Funny how taking the pressure off changes our perspective some times. The weather has been beautiful for running in the Northeast. It would almost be criminal to not get out and enjoy it!

Hi Anne - That lunch looks amazing! I have been munching on a lot of carrots lately and grapes have been my dessert. And as the weather is getting colder, I've been trying to incorporate more warm food into my lunch so leftover dinners have been making their way into my lunchbox. Very jealous on your weather - how warm is it that you can get away wearing shorts?

It was about 65 and super sunny, so really warm once we were moving!

I've also been enjoying this warm weather! I always like to play Christmas music in November during my runs, and it's been so weird listening to that while I'm sweating in shorts and a tank in Pennsylvania. I feel like someone switched our weather with California. Can't complain about no snow though!
