Riese and I had such a fun morning adventure yesterday: a hiking playdate with a friend and her little one!

Now that Riese is so mobile, it’s a lot of fun to get out and have adventures together. I’m happy she loves exploring the woods as much as I do. 🙂

Our buddies for the adventure were my friend Jen and her son Hudson, who is only a couple weeks older than Riese!

Jen and I met at a yoga class back when our little ones were only a couple months old, and have become good friends since. She loves being outside as much as I do, so we usually meet up at least once a week for a park playdate or a walk.

Now that the kids are down to one nap it’s nice to have the whole mornings free for adventures, and it was fun to mix it up and do the trails this time!

They are soooo cute together now that they are interacting so much more. They held hands at one point and Jen and I about died.

Riese is definitely going to be a trail runner – she’s already in training!

We decided it would be fun to do a picnic lunch at the trails too, so I packed up my leftover Instant Pot Farro and Spring Veggie Risotto for the 4 of us to share, and Jen brought some homemade snack balls (she makes them like my mix + match no bake snack ball formula but with riced cauliflower – good idea!) and melon for us all to snack on, too. Team effort!

Riese was kind of a hot mess during lunch so we took turns toddler wrangling and eating, though. 😉 She was way more interested in trying to climb/jump off of things than she was in eating… my adventurous little lady!

As for other fitness adventures this week, I had a run date with my furry buddy – just a quick 2 miler one morning before Matt left for work:

And I got in a couple yoga classes, too.

I wasn’t feeling my usual boot camp class this week – we have a lot going on right now with packing/getting ready to move and my body was feeling like it needed to keep things more low key and get extra sleep, so I listened. 🙂

The main food highlight this week was a really good Sun Basket (<- affiliate link for $40 off) salmon – it was simply roasted and the seasoning on it was a za’atar (sumac – sesame seeds – fennel seeds – dried thyme). Really good!

I loved the side, too – artichokes + roasted red peppers + capers + roasted fennel + lemon juice and zest. Super flavorful!

Other meals this week looked like a lot of typical staples and a lot of risotto!

In other news, I finished Michelle Obama’s book “Becoming” this week and really loved it. Beautifully written, engaging, and very honest and intimate. I especially loved/resonated with what she wrote about motherhood.

I also watched Brene Brown’s Netflix special, The Call to Courage, this week, and would highly recommend that as well! Very moving and insightful. I love her work.

And with that, I will wish you all a lovely weekend! Catch you back here on Monday. 🙂

I read Becoming earlier this year and am confident it will go down as my best book of 2019. I found her extremely relatable! I loved her thoughts on motherhood and balancing work/parenting/etc. Such an awesome book and a great role model! Your hike sounded like so much fun. The picture of the kids holding hands is so adorable! Paul is not walking yet but when he is, I look forward to outings like this!!

Love your blog! Riese looks like she's ready to take on the wilderness, sooo cute! Love when your share dinner ideas! I get in such a rut! Such wisdom that you listen to your body- I'm really trying to be more aware of this also. As a mom of 3 teenage boys -with a wonderful hubby who helps with everything- I still feel pressure to " try to do one more thing" . I'm learning to say no lol.

Aw thank you Melissa! I fight against that "just one more thing" tendency too - it's hard to slow down but so important!

I can't believe how big Riese has gotten, and so cute too. Sounds like you are closing on your new home? Would love to see the listing.

It is really neat that Riese loves to hustle along the trails and be outdoors with you! Looks like a really fun excursion.

I read Becoming earlier this year, and then saw her at her live show in LA. She is so amazing. It blew my mind at how normal her life was before Barack ran for US Senate. She's such a strong, inspiration woman.
