Hello friends!

I hope those of you in the north east are all staying safe in the hurricane! We had some light rain and a lot of wind yesterday, but seem to have been spared most of it because we’re about 3 hours from the coast. I spent the day hunkered down getting stuff done around the house, and then, since it was safe to go out and about last night, we had a hurricane party at my friend Elle’s 🙂

We did a potluck dinner and drinks; I brought a delicious Mediterranean Pasta Salad. Recipe coming tomorrow 🙂

024

Besides my pasta salad and wine and champagne, also on the menu was some salad:

008

And Lebanese food! One of our friends, Khalil, is Lebanese and made delicious homemade hummus:

001

Plus these meat ball thingies that I forget the name of — basically ground beef, parsley, onions, garlic, and some herbs all mixed together into patties and baked. YUM! Especially yum when put into a pita with hummus 🙂

010

Here’s my friend Lauren hamming (er… beef-ing?) it up with them, heh:

009

Such a fun night! It was great to hang out and catch up with the grad school gang over dinner and drinks. I missed them while we were gone! Dessert was a refreshing fruit salad 🙂

004

p.s. Isn’t this sign that Elle has on her wall cute? It’s SO her. She seriously wears 4 inch heels to class at like 9 a.m.

007

🙂

This morning, I woke up to gorgeous sunshine! Just in time because I had plans to meet a new friend, Genna, for a run 🙂

012

Genna is a blog reader that just moved to the area from New York. She emailed me last week to say hello and we decided it would be fun to meet up! I’m always on board for new running friends 🙂

We did one of my standard super hilly routes around town, chatting the whole way. It was fun to get to know her — we have a lot in common and I’m excited to have a new running buddy, especially since a bunch of my usual running buddies from grad school are injured right now 🙁

016

We did a total of 5.27 hilly miles in 47:39, for an average pace of 9:03.

Splits:

  • Mile 1: 8:54
  • Mile 2: 8:41
  • Mile 3: 8:28
  • Mile 4: 8:51
  • Mile 5: 9:47 (endless hill of death)
  • Last 0.27 miles: 9:45 (so worn out from hill of death)

Great run! I was feeling pretty tired so I’m glad I had company or else I would have walked the whole way 😉

015

I’m off to get some work done — we have a biochem quiz already tomorrow morning 🙁 Booooo!!! I’m thinking studying might need to happen by the pool 😉

Happy Sunday, everyone! Stay safe out there!

Looks like a fun party! I am so looking forward to running outside again once the weather cools off. We just moved and have so many farms and fun scenery around. Too bad it's still 115 degrees outside!

Hurricane Parties down in Wilmington (the SE North Carolina coast for non geography peoples)...candles, lanterns, cards, board games, cooler of beer (or wine, liquor/mixers)...what better way to spend time waiting for the power to come back on than hanging out with silly friends, drinking and playing games? Oh yeah...none! Well, unless you can convince the sober people in the group to load up the car and go check out the damage around town (and the beach if it's reopened to non-residents by then). And we do usually have a separate cooler for the food! Luckily I only lost power for about 5 hours so my "party" never got started, power was back on before the major winds died down! Very happy since last storm I was without power for 8 days...but I have 2 friends crashing here until they have power so maybe we will get that hurricane party going just a little late... Glad you had a good night and the weather didn't hit you guys too hard!

That sign "I can do anything, with the right shoes" is so true! That hummus looks so good! It looks a little spicy - I don't know how a food can look spicy but it does! lol

Love that shoe sign. My half bath room is decorated with the shoe motif. Different styles in different eras of small porcelain shoes I collected over the years. I even found a shoe shower curtain. That Mediterranean pasta salad looks so good. Can't wait for the recipe. Your H.Irene party sounds like fun.

Looks like a great way to spend a rainy evening! The pasta salad looks awesome, can't wait for the recipe. I'm trying to soak up my last few minutes of freedom before grad school starts again tomorrow. I can't believe you already have a quiz! Good luck!

What a great party. I don't think I've ever had Lebanese food but it always sounds and looks so good.

yeah, for kefta there is really no recipe...it's basically as follows, as per my mother ;) : ground beef or lamb, onions, parsley and spices mainly cinnamon and pepper. Put everything in the foodprocessor and mix well. If you want to put on skewers, you should add a little flour so it does not fall off. If you want to bake it you can add a layer of very thinly sliced potatoes and tomatoes on the top, the juice of one lemon and bake at 350 for about 40 minutes.
