It’s Officially Summer

I went to the pool last night after work and swam laps, alternating between freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, and butterfly for about 20 minutes.

Is there anything better than the pool on a hot summer evening? I think not.

CIMG0034

I was always on swim teams when I was younger, and I absolutely love the water. It’s fun now to go to the pool, hang out on my towel in my string bikini… and then all of a sudden hop in the water and surprise everyone by busting out some butterfly. Gotta keep people on their toes, right? 😉

Are you a swimmer? Were you ever on swim teams? I remember knowing a race would be a good one if my goggles stayed in place when I dove in at the start. Nothing worse than starting a race with water in your eyes!

To make the night even better, my after dinner dessert was a handful of these fresh farmer’s market blueberries. Summer is officially here and I am loving it 🙂

I’m off to class — catch ya’ll later today with a fun recap of dinner up in Philly! I’m all packed and ready to go — including everything for my first half marathon on Sunday in Annapolis! Eeeek!

Have a good one 🙂

The pool looks glorious. I'm much more likely to be on the sidelines working on my tan :) than actually in the pool doing laps. I definitely need to get back in the pool though for the awesome arm workout.

I love to swim! Never done it for exercise, but I'd love to. We don't really have a community pool, nor a gym with a pool either. I wish we did!

This is a gorgeous pool! Where is it? It'd be nice to swim outside instead of in the W-L indoor pool. :)

Unfortunately it's a private pool! I used to work at the club's fitness center back in college so I still use the pool now :) I'm very lucky, it's a beautiful place!

Hey Anne and Katie! I'm a swimmer in DC, and I've been swimming at the new pool in Tenleytown- its indoor, but 50m. $4 for non-dc residents. My favorite place to swim in the summer is the Haines Point pool- free on weekends for everyone! (Also long course pool!)

I'm new to DC and am not far from Tenleytown. What is the name of the pool there? Thank you!

Unfortunately it's a private club in VA - I'm sorry! I used to work there back in college so I'm still able to use the facilities. Very lucky me!

I went for a swim this morning. I wish the pool I was in look more like your pool than my indoor pool. At least 3 of the walls are windows so had there not been clouds the sun would have been rising as I swam. I did 10 laps of the pool this morning in just under 20 mimutes, alteranting between flutter board kicks, to just using my arms and full out front stroke.

I love swimming, but I am not actually very good at it. I can't dive and prefer to plug my nose when I go under! Can I back stroke a Tri? ;) Good Luck Sunday! I've heard Zooma is really fun!

I was on the swim team in high school. I swam the distance races, and I remember once diving in for my 500 race and my goggles just went kaput. I wear contacts and this was in the stone ages before disposables, so I started to panic and actually stopped at the end of the lane to adjust my goggles so I didn't lose a lens. Oh, how my coach YELLED. He was also my boyfriend's father. Needless to say, but - awkward. I really need to start swimming for exercise. There are two pools at my gym and I should take advantage. Looks fun!

Ha oh man! Your boyfriend's father? That's so awkward. My goggles used to slip off ALL the time when I dove in. It was so annoying!

I was on the swim team in high school, and I loved it. I've been lazy about the pool in recent years though...if I had access to an outdoor lap pool, it'd probably be my summer exercise of choice. But I don't. Alas! Swimming is such a great and tough exercise. I should really get back into it once I join a gym with a pool. My current gym doesn't have one! :(

Yay for pool season!!! I used to be on a country club swim team, and my high school got a swim team in my senior year. I was never the best, but I always enjoyed swimming and being part of a team.

There is nothing like a pool. Great to see you swimming laps. Wonderful cross-training and might help your injury, too. Good luck with the trip and, most importantly, the race!

AHHH I used to be on the swim team in my younger years! My favorite was butterfly & free style. I hated backstroke! I was so bad at focusing on how close I was getting to the wall. Haha. I wish I could meet up with you guys in Philly tomorrow! Unfortunately, I can't get off work :( have a blast! If you guys ever come to the Harrisburg area, please let me know!!! :)

HA I'm the same! I like backstroke, but would get nervous once I got anywhere near the wall! My favorite and best stroke is breaststroke, but I love butterfly just because I feel hardcore ;) I'm sorry to miss you tomorrow! :(

Ummm... Jealous! Our community pool has all these fountains and squirt things with two walk-in ankle deep entrances so no real swimming goes on. I wish there was a lap pool close.

I am definitely a swimmer. Back in high school I was a synchronized swimmer. Then I started swimming laps a few years ago to lose weight. It worked! 110 pounds later, I still love the pool.

Was never a swimmer until a few months ago when I FINALLY learned how to do the breathing part, then put it together with the strokes. Freestyle, then learned breaststroke, too. I'm in the pool nearly every day now, swimming anywhere from 600 to 1200 yards. Yes, I'm proud of myself!
