Earlier this week, I had one of the coolest opportunities ever – a trapeze, aerial silks, and trampoline intro class courtesy of LivingSocial! They always have the best adventures. 🙂 My friends Sarah, Kristen, and I all signed up a few months ago and had been eagerly awaiting the night ever since.

The class took place at the D.C. location of Trapeze School New York, which is down on the southeast waterfront. I remember walking by this place over the summer and dying to go. Finally, I was back!

In the summer, they have classes outside; this time of year, we were inside. Pretty cool space considering it’s just a tent!

Before getting started, they broke us up into groups (being nice about keeping friends together). My group of about 5 headed to the aerial silks first!

I’m always insanely impressed by anyone that can do the cool aerial silks shows. I’d never tried it before so I was excited to give it a shot! They kept things basic (and didn’t do anything that would tire out our arms too much for the later activities) and after a short instruction, we tried our first move!

Success!! How fun. 🙂

Here’s Kristen rocking it out:

And Sarah! How graceful does she look in the photo on the right?!

After the silks intro, we headed to the trampoline! I didn’t get any photos but it was super basic – just jumping around. I wish they’d let us do flips or something. 😉 I miss my days of spending hours on trampolines as a kid! They’re so fun.

And then, it was our turn on the trapeze!! Kristen was brave and went first.

And next up was me! That ladder was HIGH.

Weeeee!

I was able to pull my legs up onto the bar – exciting!

And then – let go!

I love this photo below – so graceful!

On our second shot, Kristen succeeded on getting her legs up onto the bar, too!

After going twice, a small group of us who had been able to get our legs on the bar and comfortably remove our hands both times were invited to attempt a “catch.” A catch means that a guy would be swinging on another bar across the way from us, and we would time our swing so that we were able to grab his wrists and let go of our bar, flying on underneath him. Cool, right?! It will make more sense when you see the photos and video. 🙂

Both Sarah and I as well as a few others got to try and we were both able to do it! This was seriously SO cool. I was ready to sign up for the circus afterward!

I had the girls take a video of my catching attempt on my phone, so you can see me in action! 🙂

Trapeze “catching” in action!

What a FUN night. I’m really tempted to sign up for more classes – it was such a blast, a good workout, and great stress relief, too! The girls and I all had the best time. Thanks for a fun night, LivingSocial!

Glad you loved it! I go to trapeze at TSNY every week and you are exactly right about it being a great workout, stress reliever, and fun! I've made a group of really close friends from trapeze school. It's a really great community. I also tell people that it's the only time during the hectic work week that I'm not thinking about work. How can you think about work when you're flying 23 feet in the air?

OMG that looks like so much fun!! I will have to keep my eye out for the next Living Social Deal. I have always wanted to try anti-gravity yoga - looks just like when you were practicing your aeriel skills.

I'm reminded of the Sex and the City episode where Carrie tries this and is too afraid to do a catch. I would be too... looks scary! But fun.
