Long Weekend Recap Part 1

Hi guys! I hope you had a nice long weekend (for those of you in the US) – it was so nice to have an extra day! I kicked off my weekend with a girl’s night out on Friday at Cheesetique in the Mosaic District. First girl’s night in a long time – such a treat! We ordered a TON of stuff and shared – everything on the menu has cheese in it and it was pretty awesome.

I was out with my friends Jenny, Lara, and Gretchen! Jenny is my best friend from high school and was in town visiting – so good to see her, and to catch up with the other ladies, too! 🙂

On Saturday morning, Matt had a workout session with his trainer while I enjoyed some time with Riese, and then we swapped and I treated myself to a power yoga class while he enjoyed some time with Riese! Teamwork. 🙂

For lunch post-yoga, I threw together tuna sandwiches for us. To make the tuna salad, I mixed canned tuna with avocado, dijon mustard, and sauerkraut. Yummy combo! Plus arugula and some carrots on the side. We bought some sourdough bread from a local bakery and it hit the spot!

On Saturday afternoon, we headed to a 1 year old birthday party! Gretchen was throwing a big donut-themed bash for her little one Penny. It was really cute – I was seriously impressed with all the decorations and food! The savory donuts were my fave – smoked salmon and bacon topped donuts? Sign me up!

Riese got all dressed up for the occasion – actually in one of the birthday girl’s hand me down dresses! Seemed appropriate. 🙂

We tried to get a cute family photo at the party (they had a photo area set up c/o Gretchen’s brother Ben, who is a local photographer/videographer), but Riese was more interested in gnawing on a piece of celery than she was taking a photo with ole mom and dad. 😉

As for Saturday night, we grilled steaks at our place with my parents! I forgot to get a photo but it was yummy and a nice low key night. 🙂

Sunday morning started early with a run date. It was hottttt and very humid. So over summer running weather! At least the clouds looked really cool, though. 🙂

It was fun to catch up with my running buddies, too. We made it just shy of 4 miles via an out and back on the W&OD trail. I was all excited because I wore my running watch for the first time in forever and of course I forgot to re-start it after one of the stop lights. Fail! So, it’s about a half mile or so short. Oh well! I’m out of watch starting and stopping practice, clearly! My friends went on to do a couple more miles and I was tempted to join them, but as much as I wanted to continue to chat with them, my body wasn’t feeling the running. Another day – perhaps when the cooler weather hits! I was WIPED.

I was really hungry and wanted something salty when I got home – there was some leftover pizza in the fridge so that + a latte hit the spot for an early lunch.

A little while later I had a second late lunch with Matt before we headed out the door – he made us turkey, ham, and bacon sandwiches with tomato, avocado, broccoli slaw (love the crunch it adds to sandwiches), arugula, and mustard.

Sunday afternoon was so much fun – we went boating!

A friend of ours was taking out a boat on the Potomac with a few others and invited us to join. What a treat – Riese’s first boat ride! She was not super into her baby life jacket, but otherwise she enjoyed herself out there. 🙂

It was so fun to be out on the water. It was hot but the breeze when we were moving felt good! And there was a beautiful sunset as we came pulling back into the marina at the DC wharf, too.

I’m going to finish up my long weekend recap in Thursday’s blog post. Until then – have a nice day guys!

Tell me about your weekend – any especially great workouts or meals?

Are you done with summer travels now or do you still have some trips coming up? We are going to Pittsburgh next week to visit Matt’s parents, which will be fun! And I have a girl’s weekend trip to the beach lined up in late September that I’m really excited for!

What a fun weekend! I love that girls' night meal, and the donut-themed birthday is adorable! Matt and I made savory everything bagel egg/cheddar/greens sandwiches for breakfast on Sunday that were so satisfying. I also bought a Dole watermelon, strawberry, banana, coconut, pineapple smoothie frozen fruit medley, and I thought of you. The watermelon is delicious in it! :)

What a fun weekend, I am definitely over melting in this summer heat/humidity especially to run. I prefer to not travel in the summer and do it when others can't during the school year. Lower rates and much quieter.

Curious about your dress to the birthday party - it's super cute! Is it nursing friendly? If so, do you mind sharing where you got it, and any other nursing dresses you have found that you like? Thanks!

It is! It's a nursing dress from Motherhood Maternity. :) One of my other faves is this one on Amazon - comes in a ton of colors. Nice as is or I sometimes add a belt!

I feel you on the difficulty running in the humid temps. After I had my two kids, something in my body changed and I can no longer tolerate exercising in the humidity. This summer has been really tough!
