Hello from Sewickley, PA outside Pennsylvania!

Matt, Riese, and I are here visiting Matt’s parents for a couple weeks – we’ve been wanting to come up to visit just to change up the scenery situation, and this was good timing because Matt has an extra busy workweek. It’s so nice to have some extra hands to help with Riese!

We arrived on Saturday afternoon and were thrilled to see that the weather is significantly cooler here – at least 10 degrees cooler, and way less humid – than in DC, which has been getting crushed by super hot temperatures lately.

It was even nice enough to have dinner outside on the back deck!

taco fixings

We had a turkey taco feast – check out all the topping options!

I went for one hard taco and one soft taco – both delish.

Plus some yummy homemade gazpacho!

And juicy watermelon to cap off the meal. Summer perfection!

On Sunday morning, Matt and I got in a run date!

It was so fun to get to run together, and to run in slightly cooler temps, too.

We kept it casual and did some running and some walking. I forgot to pack my watch, but I think we did about 3 miles.

I love running here – so pretty, right? We aren’t often here in the summer (normally we come for the holidays!), so it’s fun to see it so green.

When we got back, we enjoyed some homemade quiche (I know, we eat so well when we visit Matt’s parents) with salad and a super juicy cantaloupe.

The quiche had a crust, but it was similar to my old fave Crustless Quiche recipe.

Sidenote – when cantaloupe is actually ripe, it’s SO good, right?! We crushed a whole cantaloupe in 1 day between the 5 of us.

We spent the rest of yesterday relaxing and then we capped off the day with a visit to the pool! I forgot to get a photo, but Riese and I shared some salmon tacos for dinner at the outdoor pool bar. It felt like vacation!

I was up early this morning to go to an outdoor, distanced bootcamp class via The Studio Sewickley with a couple friends.

It was a nice morning to be outside – we were in the shade so it wasn’t too hot, and the workout was legit!

Matt and I are working this morning and Matt’s parents are taking Riese on a little hike, but I packed a ton of work into last week (especially in the evenings – I was a working machine last week) so I can hopefully phone it in a bit this week and have some fun adventures with Riese!

I will leave you with a funny photo of her potty with a view – this was at a rest stop on the drive from DC to Pittsburgh. Whatever works, right?! Her potty is small and lightweight and fine for a road trip, but we didn’t really have a super travel-friendly potty, so I just bought this one at the suggestion of an Instagram follower! (affiliate links)

(Check out Friday’s 2.5-ish year toddler update post if you missed it – I share a potty training update, favorite parenting books, preschool plans, and lots more!)

The drive went pretty well – Riese doesn’t nap in the car anymore so she was pretty tired once we arrived, but there wasn’t much traffic and we made good time. We packed some homemade sandwiches for lunch and just took the one quick rest stop break – it was a nice one because it had a ton of green space so we could run around a bit before getting back in the car!

Have a lovely day, my friends, and I will see you back here on Wednesday as usual!

Hi Anne, Can you share the name of this trail? My son goes to school in that area and we are always looking for things to do when we visit. Thanks!

Where we were running? It's not a trail, just a road... if you want to hike around, I'd recommend Fern Hollow - it's a nice area to walk around!

Very nice to see that you could escape the crushing heat and humidity of the DC area! Looks like a lovely change of scenery and activities. And so nice to have help with Riese! (And loved the travel potty with a view!) Enjoy!

Hooray for cooler air for a change! Yay! It's been incredibly hot and humid here in Minnesota, too. Like way too hot to be outside after lunchtime. Every time we try to get outside, our sons face will turn beet red and sweat will be pouring off of him. We have drier air this week so I am hoping to spend more time outside after nap this weekend. I was thinking/hoping I'd go to my parents for a couple of weeks this summer but our son already missed 7 weeks this spring and will probably miss a couple before/after the baby comes so it was hard to stomach taking him out for more than another week this summer considering how expensive daycare is. I know it's a sunk cost, but it's a sizeable amount of money! And he loves it there. So instead we decided to just go up there for a week for a true vacation. If I went for 2 weeks, I would have worked for most of those 2 weeks. It's definitely nice for you guys to have some extra help from the grandparents so Matt can really focus on work! Enjoy your time up there!

Yeah, our true vacation was our Outer Banks trip - these two weeks here are work weeks for both of us, although I'm more flexible than Matt is so taking advantage of that a bit still. :) Glad to hear some cooler weather is coming your way too!
