I am alive!!!!

I FINALLY got back to my house this morning, which involved spending a good amount of time digging my friend’s car out of the snow, getting dropped off about a half mile from my house (on the main road which was plowed), and walking the rest of the way with my duffel bag on my back because my neighborhood is a mess! Seriously, where do I live!?!?!?! Last time I checked, D.C. did NOT get this much snow.

Anyway! Yesterday was so much fun 🙂 I was going to try to come home, but decided it would be way too much effort, so instead I walked to the metro from my friend’s house and headed downtown to meet up with my friend Sarah from college!

079

Sarah is one of my best friends in D.C. and also a total foodie, so we decided the snowy weather called for a long, leisurely brunch at a new restaurant near her place in Dupont called Masa 14!

040

Masa 14 is a new Latin/Asian fusion place — their plates are all small, which I love, because then we get to try more things! If you’re in D.C., you have to try this place. The brunch menu was awesome, the decor was cool, and the service was super friendly. Very decently priced, too. We’re totally coming back soon for dinner!

To start, we decided that since it was a snow day we should have drinks 😉

022

I got the Lychee Bellini, which was champagne and lychee (an asian fruit) juice. I loved it! Tart, but not acidic, and a little sweet, but not too sweet 🙂

032

And then we started by sharing two of the flatbreads!

026

SO DELICIOUS!!

We had the Serrano Ham Flatbread, which came with goat cheese, thinly sliced cantaloupe, arugula, truffle oil, and lime:

024

And the Wild Mushroom Flatbread, which was topped with oaxaca cheese, red pepper, avocado, and sprouts.

023

We destroyed both within minutes.

Next up was the Hijiki Seaweed-Jicama Salad, with sesame oil, chayote, and daikon sprouts. This was also amazing! Very fresh with a nice, bright flavor.

031

For my entree, I ordered the Petite House Smoked Salmon Omelet.

036

It was stuffed with goat cheese and spinach and served with a side of the most amazing tomato jam. Perfect baby size, too!

037

Yum. We can’t wait to go back!

After brunch, we headed out for an epic walk to enjoy the snow and sunshine and take some pictures while digesting! Stay tuned… I’ll post the pictures tomorrow! 🙂

Class is cancelled tonight due to snow and there was no way I was getting to work today, either. The latest is that we’re supposed to get even MORE snow tomorrow and Wednesday… apparently another 10 to 20 inches?!?!?! Will it ever end?!?!?!?!?!??! HELP!!!

I may never be able to leave my house again…

Y'all sure are getting a festival of the white stuff, not fun. Just watch for the baby boom in 9 months, I promise it will happen. It happens every time we have a big storm here, in Colorado :) Stay warm & safe!!!!
LOL!! I'm sure you are right! -Anne

I LOVE lychees, what a delicious drink! I hope I remember this post - I'm going to Washington DC in Oct to run the Marine Corps marathon (all the way from England :p) and that restaurant does look great :D 10-20 inches!!?? That's mad! I was in DC a few summers ago and it was SO hot, it seems weird to see it all snowy!! And I thought the 4 inches here were bad... Have a great day :)

the only thing is, what about all the people working at bars and restaurants? everyone with "real" jobs in the fedgov/offices gets to stay home, but then everyone's heading out for snow day bars & restaurantx. i feel so bad for their staff! why do they have to trudge to work in this weather?
I know, I completely agree! It doesn't really seem fair. One of my friends who works at a gym was forced to go stay out with a coworker that lives near the gym just so he could get to work over the weekend. Ridiculous... -Anne
