YOU GUYS! I had the best morning. I got in a beautiful sunrise run in DC and there was no snow or ice anywhere to be seen! WOOHOO!!!! Spring, is that you?! Please?!

My buddy Sokphal and I hadn’t run together in WAYYYYY too long – our schedules haven’t been working out, and then it’s been too icy/snowy to run most mornings recently anyway. So glad to finally catch up with her over some miles!

I’ve really missed this view:

IMG_1100

We did a nice 4 mile out and back along the GW Parkway Mt. Vernon Trail while chatting away. On the way back, the rising sun made everything look gold/red! Beautiful!

Splits:

  • Mile 1: 8:14
  • Mile 2: 8:21
  • Mile 3: 8:33
  • Mile 4: 8:51

Loving this fun springy jacket my friends at Brooks gifted me. Especially the little flower petal like front – it’s like that in the back, too! Super cute cut.

I can’t even say how nice it was to get out and get some fresh air this morning. I know I’m not alone when I say that weather has a BIG impact on my mood. I know I’ve been really lucky to get the hell out of dodge a couple times lately for some sunshine and warmth, but MAN this winter has been bumming me out. So gray and cold and never ending! I got in an afternoon walking break yesterday in the warmer weather and I had forgotten how much being able to do that lifts my spirits during the work day. So nice to be able to leave the house and not freeze to death or slip on ice! Even Zara seems pumped. She loves sunshine and open windows as much as I do! 🙂

I’ve kept things really low key on the workout front this week (easy walks on Monday and Wednesday, Tuesday was a full rest day, and tomorrow doing an easy swim) because on Saturday morning I’m running the DC Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon! Given how snowy/icy this winter has been, my training hasn’t exactly been awesome, so I’m planning to run the race for fun with my girls and not worry about pace. I have two 10 milers (Cherry Blossom and GW Parkway Classic) coming up later this spring, so I think I’ll try to race one of those, instead, now that I can actually train again. We’ll see!

Who else is running Saturday?! Fingers crossed that the current weather forecast (rain) is wrong. See you guys out there! It’s one of my absolute favorite DC races – here are my previous recaps if you want a sneak preview of the course! FYI: it’s awesome but also big and crowded, so show up super early. 🙂

When I got home from the run I refueled with some sunny side up fried eggs, Ezekiel toast, and smoked salmon. I’m obsessed with runny egg yolks lately. So good!

Plus a Suja juice I picked up at Whole Foods last night.

And a latte, obvi.

I’ll be back tomorrow with a fun new dinner recipe – stay tuned. 🙂 Have a great day! It’s going to be sunny and warm here today – looking forward to another afternoon walk!

The weather is warming up here in Chicago too and I couldn't be happier! I am taking a rest day today but tomorrow I plan to head out and run along the lake. Yay! Good luck this weekend on your half!

Beautiful pictures! I love running near water..and luckily in Pittsburgh we've got lots of it. Good luck in the half! I've never done a RNR race but I've heard they're lots of fun!

Good luck this weekend, I'll keep my fingers crossed for good weather! I'm doing the Love Run in Philly the last weekend of the month and last year it poured so I'm hoping for much better weather this year.... my training has also been less than awesome with all the crappy weather (plus an injury) but I think its really enjoyable to do a race without trying to PR :)

Jess: I ran the love run last year in the rain too! But I PR'ed so I forgot how cold and miserable I was during the race. I'm looking forward to running in better weather this year but now i'm injured so it'll be a fun run. Have fun at RnR DC Anne! Loved those sunrise photos....

Wow! That is a gorgeous sunrise. Yeah after that CRAZY winter for the east, it looks like some warm sunny weather is coming! Yay for sunshine to run in, although I do love the frosty feeling of going out for a run and coming back to a toasty house.

I'm running RNR DC too and the weather and all has me unprepared so I'm running for fun. Hopefully the rain isn't too bad.

It's so crazy how we can not even realize how down in the dumps we are, until something takes us out of it, hey? Vancouver has just been hit with a grey / rainy spell after a couple weeks of beautiful sunshine, so I am feeling it as well. Lots of luck at your half marathon!! Have fun! :)

That jacket is super cute! I just bought a new running jacket as well to help with some spring showers that are on the horizon. I hope to run the RNR DC next year - I've heard so many good things about it. I'll be running it RNR Philly this year which I'm excited for since it's Halloween weekend which means...RUNNING COSTUMES!!!

I'll be out there on Saturday for the half; haven't done a race in less than sunny conditions, so while it's not ideal, I'm pretty sure my cold winter runs have nothing on a little rain.

Definitely race the GW Parkway Ten Miler. I got my PR there and I do well there when I have a chance to race it! The first half are rolling hills but they feel downhill for the most part. The Parkway is curvy so run the tangent. Good luck!!! :)

Awesome tips, thanks! That was the race I was planning to try to PR, since cherry blossom is usually so crowded and I'd rather just do that for fun. Was the parkway 10 miler really packed?

Running the DC RocknRoll as well and not looking forward to the rain...any tips on what to wear/how to prepare for it? I usually head to the treadmill in rainy conditions. This will be an experience! lol

Put on some bodyglide to minimize chafing, and wear a hat or visor to keep the rain out of your eyes. Other than that, just try to enjoy it/pretend you're a kid playing in the rain :)

Ha! I wouldn't wear a trashbag during the race, just at the start line while waiting if you want to... that would be super hot/uncomfortable to actually run in since it doesn't breathe at all!

Agreed!!! MAIN question: I was planning on wearing a wicking t-shirt since it will be high40s-low50s, but now knowing it will be raining the entire time, thinking about layering a long sleeve underneath since I'll be wet the entire time...is that smart or will that just weigh me down further and make me warmer? haha SO many questions! Last one I promise :) Thanks!

No worries! I'd probably stick with just the tee, but I hate being hot when I run! Also, wet skin is more comfortable than a wet shirt, in my opinion, so long as it isn't crazy cold out, which it won't be. ..
