All of a sudden it looks like summer here – check out all this GREEN!

anne mauney running on the c&o canal trail.

It had been two full weeks since I made it out for a run, so I was excited to get out there on Sunday morning and get in some movement and nature time with my college friends Sarah and Kathleen.

It was really warm and humid out – hence my beet red face – so we kept the pace casual, but I actually felt pretty good while we were running which was a nice treat.

I was worried I’d feel rough since it had been so long since I ran, and since it was pretty hot out!

Chatting with friends always makes the miles fly by, and it was nice to be out on the trails too. I always love running along the C&O canal trail.

Check out this cute family of turtles sunning themselves on a log!

We made it 4 miles – woohoo! I was definitely sore yesterday 🙂

Such a nice way to spend a Sunday morning.

My in-laws arrived in town late on Friday evening; Matt left first thing on Saturday morning for his big Colorado River rafting adventure. I’m SO grateful that they will be here this week to help out with the kids and all our schedule logistics/moving parts.

On Saturday night, my father in law made us one of his specialties: cedar plank maple mustard salmon. This is always one of my favorites!

salmon with broccoli, roasted potatoes, cucumber salad, and watermelon.

Riese was partial to the watermelon, but the salmon was a big hit with both her and Wes, too. 🙂

It reminds me of my Lemon Dijon Sheet Pan Salmon recipe, but with a touch of maple syrup and a slightly smoky flavor thanks to the cedar planks. It was the first time our grill has been back in use since last fall!

Sunday night we kept things super simple and ordered pizza that we enjoyed with a homemade salad.

For those local, Monterey’s in Old Town Alexandria has great pizza. It’s our delivery go-to.

I hope you all have a nice week, and I’ll see you back here on Friday with some recipe inspiration!

Love that late spring/early summer time when everything is so lush and green! Obviously so do the turtles! :-)

Nothing is better than a run with friends -- unless it is in-laws when help is needed on the home front!
