Hi friends! I hope you’re having great weeks. I’ve been enjoying getting a good night’s sleep every night this week after all my insane travel! I arrived home on Monday afternoon totally exhausted so it’s been good to dial things back a bit this week.

On the food front, I’ve been enjoying my usual favorites – especially Pumpkin Pie Oatmeal (<—click for recipe) since the weather has been lovely and fall-like! I usually do 1/3 cup of oats and milk instead of 1/2 cup and add some fun toppings, like nuts. This week I’ve been rocking the slivered almonds.

As for dinner, we’ve been enjoying some Blue Apron this week! We first received a box from them a couple weeks ago for a blog review that will be coming in a few weeks, but we liked it so much I signed up/paid to get it this week just for fun because I liked the look of the meals. So far we made the Parmesan Crusted Chicken with Kale Caesar Salad & Toasted Hazelnuts. Yum!

It was supposed to be two servings but it ended up being 4 servings for us – we had it for lunch again the next day, with the addition of some apple slices and avocado (and extra greens, since the greens were 2 servings).

Photography tip: always use natural lighting if possible. Here is the difference between natural lighting and indoor lighting for food photos – this first photo is indoor lighting at dinnertime:

And this is with natural lighting at lunchtime. So much better, right?

If you’d like more in depth photography tips, you can find a whole series of photography posts linked to on my FAQ page. 🙂

For fitness, I’ve kept things pretty low key since I was really tired when I got back from all my travels, so no 6 a.m. CrossFit this week! Tuesday’s workout was a morning coffee walking date with a friend and doing some errands around town via bike, and yesterday I got in a casual 4 mile run after work. Tonight’s plan is a yoga class at Edge Yoga after I wrap up work.

Speaking of work – I’m super excited because I’ve decided to rent desk space at the Uber Offices downtown! I’ve been thinking about renting some office space for awhile now, but price and needing to commute have been stopping me. Well, I finally decided it’s time to take the plunge because I’ve been feeling more and more unhappy working at home all the time by myself and it’s reached a point where happiness > the downsides. I went and toured the Dupont location this morning and I LOVED it – it’s right downtown where I used to work back in the day (literally in the same building where I interned in early 2005!) and seems like a really fun environment – lots of start ups and small businesses/entrepreneurial types. The desk rental option (vs. a full on office) is only $300/month, which isn’t bad considering it’s right downtown and includes internet/some printing, and it’s month to month so if it doesn’t work out it’s no big deal to bail. I’ll probably head in during normal work hours about 4 days a week and work from home one day. I think it will be really good for me to get out of the house and interact with others more – obviously I’m out and about meeting AnneTheRD clients some, but that’s not the same as having coworkers/people around when you’re working the rest of the day. At some point, I’d love to get an actual office with a door there so it’s easier to see clients, but we’ll see if that makes sense financially in the future because it’s a lot more expensive ($1k or more). For now, they do have meeting rooms I can book on occasion. Anyway! If any of you work in the Dupont area and want to meet for lunch, let me know. 😉 Also, get pumped, because this means the return of packed lunches! (I have a whole section of packed lunch ideas on my recipe page, btw!)

And now, time to hop on a call. Have a great day, my friends!

Congratulations on your new space!! So exciting. I can imagine it will be nice to break up you day and work somewhere you also don't try to relax/sleep etc. Wish I was closer so that we could meet up for lunch! Also, love those Wyman's wild blueberries. Your blog trip to visit the farm and review was the one that actually turned me onto these berries and they are the only ones I buy now. I use them in all of my oatmeal recipes!

I love them! So flavorful. In summer I buy fresh berries, but love the frozen wild blueberries for fall/winter!

Thats awesome! I didnt even know about these places where multiple people can rent space until I visited my husband at his work's Chicago office. They are upgrading now to an official space, but right now they are in a large space with a million other companies. Crazy! That sounds like a great option for you though and I hope everything goes smoothly!

Congrats on the new office space - I hope you love it! I have been all about oatmeal lately too. Usually I make your banana oatmeal and add an egg. Sometimes I add pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice too. So yummy and it keeps me full a long time!

Congrats on the new work space! It's amazing how just a little social interaction (or lack thereof) can dramatically affect our emotional happiness. Working from home sounds great, but there are benefits to working with others too! Good luck, and I hope it works out for you. I just want to say I really love your intuitive eating AND exercise approach. It's really inspiring and freeing to know that you can listen to your body, and it will guide you to make the right choices. Thanks for showing us how it's done :)

Congrats on your new office space! I think getting out of the house is such a good thing mentally. Working from home has it's benefits too but it sounds like you will have the best of both worlds. :-)

Congrats on the new space! I am sometimes envious of people working at home most days a week but I guess it's a grass is greener type of thing. I am going to check out your packed lunches ideas, I could always use something new and different to spice it up!

Congrats on the new office space. Some days I LOVE working from home and other days I really miss having co-workers so I can see the appeal of having an office to go to. I'm actually working from Whole Foods as I type this. :)

Congrats on your new space! Did you decide that you would be more productive not working at home or did you need more space? Also, can't wait to see more packed lunches because I seriously need some inspiration for mine!

I work at 18th and G, so I find myself wandering up to DuPont when I need a break from the office. Such a fun part of town! Have you been to the Native Foods around there yet? I think it's at 18th and M, but it's a straight walk down Connecticut from DuPont Circle. So good!

I love the "chicken" and avocado sandwich, and the Caribbean kale salad. It's a place that makes me think I could go veg and not miss meat.

I've been diggin' on oatmeal for breakfast lately. I am not much of a fan of this a.m. staple, but I finally found the right combo of flavors. Pumpkin Pie Oatmeal sounds downright sinful! ;) Congratulations on the next step in your career. You've got me thinking...maybe it's time for me to take the next (scary) step! Thanks for posting

Hope you enjoy your new office! I want my consulting to be my primary job in the future, but really love working at a hospital with colleagues as well. I'm sure it will bring some new energy to your work.

Our family loves Blue Apron. It is an easy way for our children to visualize the recipe in adviance so they are motivated to help cook it too! Like you, I need to be around other people if I am going to work all day. The isolation would get to me if I worked from home. Enjoy your "desk job"! I enjoy your blog very much - this is my first time commenting on it. Its fun to get race event reports from you. I like to do long runs in DC when I am there visiting my family who lives in Capitol Hill. We live in Raleigh so taking a break from our foothills is welcome when we visit DC! Keep up the good work!
