Weekend Adventures Part 1: Happy Hour + Fun Run

Hi guys! We did a lot this weekend so I’m breaking up the action into two posts. Here’s part 1!

On Friday night, Matt, Riese, and I had a fun outing – happy hour! It was sooo hot out but still nice to get out and about and mix it up. We both enjoyed a beer and shared some apps – seared tuna + deviled eggs. Both delicious!

When we got home neither of us was super hungry so we just had a bunch of cut up veggies (bell pepper, cucumber, and carrots) with hummus and crackers and called that the rest of dinner. It worked! And yay for very minimal dinner clean up. 🙂

On Saturday morning, we had a fun adventure planned: a run date with my brother and his fiance, who were in town for their engagement party that evening.

My parents had some fun grandparent time with Riese while the four of us had our run date, which started in Georgetown along the waterfront. I wanted to show them one of my favorite DC running routes!

From Georgetown, we ran along the water towards the Lincoln Memorial and then down to the World War II Memorial, where we stopped for photos and then turned back. It was humid but cloudy so not too insanely hot, which was nice.

Matt wanted to run up the stairs of Lincoln because he hadn’t seen the view from up there in awhile – good idea! The clouds were really cool looking with the Washington Monument in the background.

We ended up covering about 4.5 miles total at a casual pace, and it flew by thanks to lots of chatting. It was my first run in 2 weeks since I’ve just been running on the weekends lately and last weekend I was sick, so it felt good to get back out there! I can’t waittttt for cool running weather this fall… I’m planning to add an extra weekday run into the mix once the weather starts speaking to me a bit more. 😉

I also wanted to give a shout out and big thank you to my friends at Brooks, who gifted Matt a new running outfit as part of my ongoing ambassadorship with the brand! Perfect timing since we will be doing more and more running together as the months pass in preparation for our 10k (the Marine Corps 10k) coming up in late October.

Matt rocked his new outfit for Saturday’s run and gave it two thumbs up. He was wearing: (affiliate links) the Sherpa 7″ Short (love all the pockets, especially the inner cell phone pocket), the Ghost Short Sleeve (REALLY lightweight/cool and perfect for summer – great sweat wicking), and the PureFlow 7 shoes. He had never tried those shoes before (you can see them in the above pics) and he really liked them – lightweight and comfortable. I’m a PureFlow fan so I thought he might be too! He loved his new gear – thank you Brooks!

I was also wearing all Brooks: my fave Ghost Racerback Tank (unfortunately the fun color I’m wearing above is no longer available, but there are other cute colors and it’s sooo lightweight and comfy) and the Chaser 5″ Short which I love so much I own it in like 5 colors. 🙂 On my feet I was rocking the Ghost 10 shoes (<- on sale right now) which are among my go-to shoes nowadays for both walks and runs – super comfortable. My sports bra was also Brooks – the Uplift Crossback, which I love – it’s the bigger cup version of my old (pre-pregnancy/breastfeeding) fave, the Uprise Crossback. And of course I was wearing my ever-present visor, too!

I’ll be back tomorrow with part 2 of our weekend. Have a nice day guys!

Anyone else get in a fun run this weekend? Tell me about it! 🙂
