Weekend Adventures Part 2

Hi guys! I’m back to recap part 2 of the weekend. If you missed part 1, check that out first!

The big highlight of our weekend was my brother Steve and his fiance Roxanne’s engagement party!

They had the engagement party at a cool Airbnb in Old Town, Alexandria. It’s a space specifically for parties – beautiful!

Roxanne used to run a food start up in Raleigh, and she became friends with a number of chefs in that area; one of them is Jacob Boehm, who owns Snap Pea Catering. It’s a cool pop-up catering company that focuses on fresh, local, and seasonal food. They catered the event, and the food was fantastic – so creative and unique presentations, too.

We had:

gazpacho with pea shoots and corn chips:

lettuce wraps with brisket (that meat was SO flavorful – and I loved the creative use of leftover egg cartons):

peaches with a really creamy amazing cheese that I can’t remember the name of (similar to brie, but not brie):

double fried broccoli (as good as it sounds):

snap pea catering

mini shrimp and grits:

watermelon wrapped with ham:

and really awesome crostini with shredded beef and garlicky tomato sauce (blurry but so yummy I’m sharing anyway):

For dessert, we enjoyed a layered ice cream cake! My brother loves ice cream cake and Roxanne surprised him with this dessert – so sweet. It had an unexpected layer of lemon sorbet – the flavor combination was really good!

Such a fun night to celebrate the happy couple. We are all really excited for their wedding in the spring!

As for Sunday, we had brunch with our family + Roxanne’s family. We had smoked salmon + veggie egg casserole + fruit + bacon + whole wheat and vegan carrot cake muffins. Riese had blueberries and bits of the veggies and eggs from the casserole.

On Sunday night, my brother and Roxanne came over for dinner at our place. We were going to grill out, but it was storming, so we decided a cozy pizza, salad, and beer night sounded better. 🙂

Plus leftover cake from the party! There was a whole extra cake leftover – sweet!

I’ll see you guys back here on Thursday with a recipe post – stay tuned!

Which of the food options at the party would you be most interested to taste?

I can't even decide which I'd want to try the most because it all sounds ah-mazing, and I love the presentation! I think the most intriguing dish to me is the double fried broccoli, and the cheese + peaches looks phenomenal. I adore all thing lemon, but I often struggle to decided between lemon or chocolate - hello best of both worlds!

Totally!! It was interesting because when you ate the lemon sorbet portion at the same time as the chocolate it almost made it taste like a berry flavor - really unexpected flavor combo!

Mmm it's the shrimp and grits as well as that really yummy shredded beef with garlicky tomato sauce. I'm usually a dessert person but both of those sound and look so good! Just give me the whole platter of each.

I had no idea there were Airbnb's specifically meant for party spaces, but it totally makes sense, and is such a great option for a party. All of that food looks absolutely incredible. I also love your dress!

Looks like an awesome celebration :D glad you all got a chance to hang out! Was the cheese camembert?? Similar consistency to brie but stronger flavor, comes from Normandy, delish!

Hmmm. mystery! In searching for French cheeses since my return to the US there are a few made here which have their own names and are made in the style of some french soft cheese which aren't imported. Let me know if you find out what it was called :)

Got the info! Apparently it's a blend. It's this brand, "cottonseed" is the name of it! https://boxcarrhandmadecheese.com/our-cheeses/
