Thank you to Ricola® Herb & Throat drops for sponsoring this post as part of an ongoing campaign with Socialstars. #swissherbs

I always love when other bloggers share random peeks into their lives – day in the life posts, Q&A surveys and coffee dates, what they buy when they grocery shop, and what’s in their bag/purse. I’ve shared a number of day in the life posts (September 2014, February 2015, September 2015), I’ve done surveys/virtual coffee dates (Behind the Scenes of the Blog January 2015, Virtual Coffee Date November 2015), and I’ve shared what I buy when I grocery shop (May 2011, April 2013, December 2014), but I’ve yet to do a “what’s in my purse” post. Let’s do this, shall we?

Clutter stresses me out, so I try to not have too much random stuff in my purse at any given time, and I also switch purses quite often (gotta match the outfit, obvi) so I try to minimize the amount of stuff I’m moving around. That said, there are certain things that always come with me no matter what.

First up are the basics, starting with my wallet, obviously. I bought this cute mini-wallet awhile ago from a small boutique to use instead of my huge one because it fits into any sized bag. It has my ID, credit cards, my metro card, and my frequent drink cards at my two fave coffee shops. 😉 #priorities Other basics: my phone and keys. My keychain is exploding with all sorts of membership card tags.

I also always carry at least a few business cards! You never know when someone might ask – this is especially useful since I work out of a co-shared office and meet new people a lot. Also, sunglasses. My Oakley Urgency Sunglasses come everywhere with me.

A snack is another must have; I never go anywhere without at least 1 snack in my bag. The hangry monster spares no one! I usually have on hand a homemade trail mix (pictured), a store bought bar, or another homemade goodie like my Tart Cherry Pie Snack Balls, Oatmeal Raisin Energy Bites, or Nutty Protein Granola Bars.

Here are the odds and ends that I have copies of in each bag/purse so I don’t have to move them:

  • A couple hair ties. For spontaneous workouts or terrible hair days.
  • A pen. For jotting down my many brilliant Shark Tank-worthy ideas. Or, you know, just reminders/to do lists. 🙂
  • Ricola Dual Action Honey Lemon Drops. Just in case! Fast, dual action soothing cough + sore throat relief, all in one drop.
  • Lip balm. If I don’t have any, it’s a serious problem. Totally addicted.
  • Tampons.
  • A small mirror. When you eat a lot of kale and chia seeds, checking out your teeth after lunch is kind of a must. 😉 Which reminds me, I should add floss to this list…

And last but not least: a water bottle! Gotta stay hydrated, my friends. 🙂

Your turn! What’s in your bag/purse? Anything super random or funny? I also usually have some random inspiring quotes floating around in my purse (often in the form of Honest Tea bottle caps – I love the messages inside them) – you never know when you’ll need a little boost of positivity. 🙂

I take great pains to keep my purse cleaned out. I do have a separate wallet and change purse... that's as crazy as it gets. Haha.

I actually just bought a little change purse because random change floating around was driving me crazy, but I keep forgetting to put it in my purse!

Oh dear lord I can't imagine all the crap in my purse! I need to de-clutter it ASAP. Essentials I carry would include: lip balm (I have one for my purse, desk, and work bag), mirror, wristlet (fits my ID, credit cards, and SmartTrip card), water bottle, and some sort of bar (Lara or Luna bar usually). The one thing I'm actually horrible about carrying is tampons!

My purse looks a lot like yours; the only things that I almost always carry with me that you don't have here are my headphones and kindle! :)

Ah, I do carry my headphones often, too! Especially now that I just saw that Serial podcast is back with another season!!

Lip balm is an absolute must...I also keep my vitamins in a little Altoids container in my purse so I remember to take them :)

I try to make sure I have a Tide stick in my purse. It's saved me when I accidentally spill coffee on myself!

Most interesting, Anne, thanks for sharing. Given your running and working out, I'd think you should add some Ibuprophin tablets for anti-inflammatory purposes if muscle strains!

I usually get my anti-inflammatory benefits from food -- like tart cherry juice. :) Ibuprofen just comes out if I have a headache or serious soreness!
