Hi friends! Checking in today to share one of my most enthusiastic blog reviews ever. I recently had the opportunity (via a sponsored FitFluential campaign) to try the new Bumble Bee SuperFresh products. Have you heard of them?

bumble bee superfresh

If you haven’t, it’s a new premium frozen seafood that makes preparing restaurant quality seafood fast and easy. The seafood is already pre-seasoned, and no thawing is required, so these meals literally go from freezer to table in 15 to 20 minutes flat. Sign me up – always looking for healthy weeknight meal ideas that aren’t complicated or long winded!

When they first reached out to me about trying this product, the first thing I asked about was the ingredient list. Most pre-packaged already seasoned food contains a ton of weird ingredients, preservatives, is loaded with salt, etc. Well, not the case here, hence me doing this review! The ingredient lists are all short, full of real food, and no preservatives or additives are in sight. Awesome! They aren’t overly salty, either, and are gluten free.

Each package contains 2 servings and is priced between about $8.99 and $10.99. The fish is flash-frozen and vacuum-packed for freshness. There are seven entrée options as of now:

  • Tilapia with Garlic and Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Tilapia with Lemon, Pepper & Herbs
  • Lemon Shrimp with Garlic & Herbs
  • Spicy Shrimp Romesco
  • Salmon with Garden Pesto
  • Salmon with Garlicky Black Pepper & Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Petite Scallops with White Wine & Garlic-Herb Butter

For those who are local, I found the products at both Giant and Safeway. Check their website to search for a store near you!

Matt and I ended up trying out two of the meals. First up: Lemon Shrimp with Garlic & Herbs.

bumble bee superfresh shrimp

Ingredients: shrimp, butter, fresh lemon juice, garlic, extra virgin olive oil, white wine, fresh lemon peel, parsley, red pepper, sea salt, black pepper. Sounds delish, right?

I decided to turn it into a stir fry, so I tossed the shrimp into a pan with some frozen stir fry veggies. The sauce is in a little frozen medallion that you add towards the end of cooking.

quick eeasy healthy dinner

Served atop 90 second brown rice. This dinner came together in 10 minutes flat! Delicious, too – even Matt, who isn’t a shrimp guy, enjoyed it – great flavor. The only thing we didn’t love was that the shrimp was tail-on – but not a big deal.

The other product we tried was the Tilapia with Garlic and Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

I think the whole fish fillets are where this product really shines – the shrimp was great, and I’ll buy it again, but frozen shrimp entrees are a lot more common. Having a pre-seasoned whole fish that’s ready to cook? Now that’s awesome.

Even cooler is that the whole fish all come with their own baking parchment paper pouches! All you have to do is take the frozen fish out of the vacuum sealed package it was stored in and pop it into the provided parchment paper pouch, still frozen.

Fold over, pop on a baking sheet, bake for 18 minutes, and done! That was SO EASY.

I served the fish with a side of olive oil and garlic sautéed kale, mushrooms, and sweet potatoes.

Delicious combination!

Again, even Mr. “I hate fish” gave this two thumbs up, and said I was allowed to buy it again. 😉

Next up on our list (currently waiting in our freezer) is the Salmon with Garden Pesto, which also comes with its own parchment paper. Can’t wait to try it, too, and the other varieties! I’ll definitely continue to purchase this product with my own money. Two big thumbs up.

These products would make a great date night dinner, too – for ideas, check out Bumble Bee’s website – they have a nice selection of seasonal menus incorporating these products with recipes and even wine pairings!

Looks like some great offerings! I love salmon for a quick dinner when I am pressed for time. However, I have to remember to defrost it or the whole "quick" thing does not work out. Thanks for the review!

This sounds really yummy! I will def have to get some when I go to the grocery store next! I've been really cold when I get back from my run/walk in the evening, so I've been doing the same fish poached in broth for dinner almost every night, just rotate the fish. I put the package of fish to thaw before I leave for the run, when I get back, I put the low salt organic chix or veggie broth on with the fish in it, add about two cups of broccoli slaw and some spinach and then throw it in a bowl. The broth warms me up and I get some mega protein.

I'm also in the "I hate fish" camp. Which one is best for a non-fish person to try? Is tilapia the most mild and non-fishy tasting of the bunch?

Yeah, definitely tilapia. The shrimp wasn't too fishy at all either, though - Matt liked both!

I actually looked for these the other day after seeing a review on another website but my store doesn't carry them yet. I'm a vegetarian who doesn't eat fish but my husband loves it. Since I have no idea to cook it, this would be absolutely perfect for us. Glad you enjoyed it!

isn't that a lot of sodium for one dish?

I was fine with it - the ones we tried had about 440-450mg sodium, and while I wouldn't consider that low, I wouldn't consider it too high, either, especially for someone like me/Matt who is exercising frequently and doesn't eat much on the processed food front. Most importantly - it didn't taste too salty!

I've seen them in the stores and I think I may even have had a coupon, but I thought they were quite pricey. The servings sizes are not big enough to warrant the price, but otherwise they sound very tasty.

I thought it was worth it, but I'm also used to completely outrageous DC food/restaurant prices, so maybe I'm biased. :)

I like Tilapia but I am always concern on where it comes from. Do you know where the Bubble Bee brand is coming from?
