Hello friends!

I hope you all had a nice weekend! Mine was busy but fun. On Friday night, Matt and I went out to dinner with a big group of friends, followed by a lazy Saturday morning that involved pancakes. 🙂

Matt and I made them using the Arrowhead Mills buttermilk pancake mix you see in the back. We followed their directions and I also added 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed for good measure. Plus, bananas and blueberries!

Deeeelish.

The other highlight of the morning was discovering a Saturday morning farmer’s market that is literally 2 blocks from our apartment. Total win!

farmers market

We bought all sorts of veggies and fruit. The tomatoes, especially, were delicious — I can’t get over how much more flavorful farmers market tomatoes are than grocery store tomatoes!

I spent the afternoon on Saturday wedding shoe shopping with my high school BFF and MOH in our wedding, Jenny! More on that tomorrow — I’m going to post an update on how our planning is going since I haven’t mentioned it in awhile. I also tried on my wedding dress for the first time yesterday in my actual size! Exciting.

Saturday night, I went out to dinner with some fun girlfriends, and on Sunday morning, I met my friend Sokphal for a run!

Very sweaty post-run photo

We met up at 8 a.m.; originally I was voting for a later start, but once we got out there I was glad we didn’t wait! It was already really hot at 8 and steadily getting hotter throughout our run.

IMG_2326

We ran on the Capital Crescent Trail which was happily mostly shady. 🙂 And flat-ish!

IMG_2323

Minus the heat, we had a good run. I felt a bit worn out but it still felt good to get out there!

IMG_2325

I’ve also still been enjoying testing out my new MOTOACTV GPS watch, which I received as part of my Verizon Wireless Ambassadorship. Sokphal wore her Garmin (which is the watch I usually wear) so it was cool to compare them! They were very similar in distance, but not exactly the same. When we finished, my watch said 6.06 miles and hers said 5.96. I’m not sure if we started them at the exact same time or not, though — we’re going to do some further experimenting on our next couple runs to see how the split times and distances match up. 🙂

IMG_2328

I’m really loving this watch so far — it definitely beats the Garmin in that it plays music, which I’ve been enjoying the couple times I’ve run alone recently! I also love that it gives you all your splits on one screen — easier than clicking through everything back and forth on the Garmin. The only thing I really wish it did that the Garmin does is beep every mile and pop up with your split time while you’re actually out running. This is especially helpful during races so I can make sure I’m still on track! The MOTOACTV shows my actual pace at all times so I can glance down and see what we’re running at that instant, but you can’t see your exact average pace per mile until you are done with your workout.

IMG_2331

We were pretty speedy on the run — average pace of 8:30 min/miles. Not bad for the heat! 🙂 You can see all our splits in the photo above. We did a total of 6.06 miles in 51:35, according to my MOTOACTV.

The rest of yesterday was spent with my mom at our wedding venue having a planning meeting. We still have a lot of details to figure out but things are definitely starting to come together. The next big hurdle is our formal invitations, which we want to send out in early August. Must go look at some samples soon!

Ta ta for now, friends!

What did you guys do this weekend?

Sounds like a fabulous weekend. I'm always so jealous when you post your running pics…DC is just too beautiful not to run around in. :) Glad you had a great weekend girl! Hope to see you soon!

That's awesome there's a farmer's market so close to your apartment! I haven't been to one this season yet, but hopefully that will change this Saturday :)

Yum! I love buttermilk pancakes... My boyfriend and I made chocolate chip buttermilk pancakes with banana! Delish. Farmer's market tomatoes are my fave! Especially paired with lettuce and bacon for the classic BLT!

Have you ever tried making pancakes with protein powder? I typically use 1-2 egg white with one scoop of protein powder (usually vanilla or brown rice powder), a 1/2 banana or some fruit like blueberries and top it with agave, stevia, organic natural maple syrup or agave. I'm sure there's other real recipes on the internet (Rather than me, throwing stuff together, mode). It's healthier than traditional pancake mix.

I haven't - maybe I'll try that next time! I love the Arrowhead Mills whole grain mix we used, though!

Sounds like you had a fab weekend and what lovely weather you are having. Here is England it has done nothing but rain - boo. Can't wait to hear about your shoes. I got married last year and it is such a magical time. Enjoy every thing you do as it all adds to the experience and fun. We also don't have any farmers markets near me but i think i am going to have to try and hunt one down.

first of all, you made me want pancakes SO BADLY! ahhhh. SEcond of all, I WANT A MOTOACTV SO BADLY!!!!!!!!!! its like a little piece of heaven on the wrist. It does everything but literally run for you. haha I've noticed that a lot of GPS need some time to get used to your stride, cadence, etc etc. Usually within a week or two they adjust to how YOU run. so dont give up hope yet just because they're off a few times ;)

I love the display on the MOTOActive: the way you can scroll through you mile splits. It looks so simple and easy! I don't have a GPS watch yet, but I may have to look into this one!

Agreed about fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers! The freshness, bonus nutrients, all contribute to better taste. Yours look fantastic. I remember when I was young, my mother kept a garden, and I helped her pick tomatoes. Makes me want to start one of my own, when I have a yard :)
