Cozy Weekend

Hey guys! Matt and I had a cozy, low key weekend, which was nice and much needed after a really busy work week!

On Friday, we made a Sun Basket (<- affiliate link for 3 free meals) – a chicken and quinoa orzo dish with veggies. It was good, although I would have liked it better as a cold (vs. hot) salad, I think, because the weather is so hot right now!

I was wiped from the week so I didn’t stay up much past dinner (which was kind of late)!

On Saturday, we slept in! For breakfast, I had one of my Banana Spelt Muffins (<- recipe) – my mom made a batch of them and brought us some. Thanks mom! Plus some plain Greek yogurt with fresh fruit, which I’m really into lately – so refreshing and summery!

Then Matt and I took the dogs to the dog park! Both of them had a blast. 🙂 Here they are in the car on the way back – best buds now! We hit up our favorite coffee shop, Java Shack, on the way home and took them for a stroll with our iced lattes.

We had some leftover enchiladas (basically a variation on my Mexican Lasagna, but with ground turkey) on hand so we turned them into brunch with a fried egg on top, plus some guac, microwave wilted spinach, and fresh tomatoes! Sooo good. Plus fresh cherries on the side!

The rest of the afternoon was spent cozy at home! Matt got work done and played some guitar, and I cleaned out a closet that has been driving me crazy for ages and started setting up our baby registry. We thought about trying to go out for dinner with friends, but by late afternoon it was storming and we were more in the mood to stay home and relax, so we did! We watched a couple episodes of House of Cards with a huge thing of homemade popcorn (just organic corn kernels popped in a big pot on the stove with oil) and relaxed with the dogs, who were wiped from the morning adventure!

Dinner was random – Matt had leftovers from Friday night (the chicken/orzo dish), and I had homemade egg salad (hard boiled eggs + mayo + dijon mustard + salt/pepper) with crackers and a bunch of raw veggies and fruit. Whatever works! I didn’t get a picture. 🙂 We took the dogs for a nice long walk after dinner – I love how having dogs encourages us to get out so much more for walks together! It was really quiet and calm out and we timed it well and were back before it started raining again.

On Sunday morning, I met my friend Karen for yoga at Edge Yoga (via ClassPass <- affiliate link for $40 off) and then we grabbed brunch after at Le Pain Quotidien. Hit the spot, as always, and I loved catching up with my friend. 🙂

Matt and I did some more work around the house yesterday afternoon and then headed over to a friend’s place for a BBQ around 5. We swung by Whole Foods on the way and grabbed kabobs to throw on the grill – and I made us a big salad from the salad bar to share on the side. Plus some unpictured corn on the cob, and carrot cake for dessert!

We were up late last night watching Game of Thrones (so intense!!), but I’m still feeling pretty refreshed this morning thanks to the cozy weekend. I hope you guys had a good one, too!

Have a great day 🙂

I'm so glad the pups are getting along so well and so quickly! I love rainy summer days that keep you inside. It's almost like a free day because you legit have a reason to stay home and relax!

Hi! You may already know about this, but just a recommendation from one D.C. area dog owner to another -- Shirlington Dog Park. It's amazing!

That picture of them sleeping is precious! They have seemed to bonded very nicely, such a good thing. Definitely agree about dogs getting you out and about more and meeting so many people even if it's just a hi. How is Zara holding up?

She's getting more brave, but Freyja has been a lot more challenging than Ashe in terms of Zara because Freyja chases her/is really interested in her. We're making progress by having Zara upstairs in a gated area and giving Freyja a million treats... hoping it gets to the point where Zara can wander around and Freyja ignores her!

There is nothing like a cozy weekend -- especially after wearing out the dogs! (How is your cat dealing with the invasion of Canine Nation?)

She's cool with the puppy but not with Freyja... who chases her! We are working on it!

You always eat the most amazing looking food! I have to admit that I'm a bit jealous. I'm glad to hear that the dogs are transitioning well and they like each other.

Cozy weekends are the best! How is Zara getting along with the dogs? Our cat Maci always got along well with our chocolate lab Jazz, but we just had to put Jazz down. The thought of getting another puppy with the cat makes me nervous. :(

Aw, I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. :( Our puppy has actually been way better with Zara than the older dog, Freyja! So I think it just depends on the dog, but we are making progress and I think everyone will be more mellow in a week or two!
