Exciting news: the humidity has finally broken! When our alarm went off this morning to walk the dogs before work, I was assuming we’d have another muggy morning awaiting us, so you can imagine my surprise when we walked outside and it was GORGEOUS – cool and crisp. What a treat! The dogs were just as excited as Matt and I were – everyone had more energy!

We ended up having a great walk and even threw in some block-long sprints just for fun since it was so nice and cool! It felt so good to run and not feel terrible and outrageously hot – but about half a mile of running total split up into sections was just about perfect for me at this point. 🙂

I had another Banana Spelt Muffin (<- recipe) and some plain Greek yogurt with fruit when we got back to refuel. (I also had a muffin before we left – I always need something right when I wake up!) Hit the spot! I’m such a creature of habit for breakfast – it’s usually either my microwave banana oatmeal, my flour free breakfast pancake, overnight oats, or a yogurt with fruit and toast/muffin combo. Savory stuff happens on occasion, but usually I want that later in the morning vs. right when I wake up.

A bunch of you have asked lately how our cat Zara has been doing with the house being invaded with dogs, and the answer is she’s doing better! It was great when we just had our puppy Ashe, because Ashe doesn’t chase Zara and after some initial sniffs for the most part ignored her entirely, so Zara could walk by her and not be bothered. Our new dog, Freyja, however, is WAY more interested in Zara and chases her/obsesses over her. We are making progress, though! We’ve been bringing Zara upstairs and putting a gate up so that the dogs can observe her closely but not get TOO close, and then we give them a ton of treats and work on obedience stuff (sit, lie down, etc.) with her right nearby. After a week or so of doing this it seems to be paying off – miss Zara braved coming upstairs while we were out walking and was sitting on her favorite windowsill in our breakfast nook when we got back. Freyja was intrigued at first, but quickly lost interested and left her alone – and even let her leave without chasing her. Hooray!

I think in a couple weeks we should be all good with everyone roaming freely without drama. 🙂 Zara still has the basement blocked off as her territory only, though, and it will stay that way – her litter box, food/water, and a little ledge where she can sit on the windowsill are all down there, so she likes it and it’s good for her to always have a safe space!

As far as food goes, last night I whipped up a shrimp dish for us – it was basically onion, celery, and green pepper chopped up and sauteed with some tomato paste and diced tomatoes (canned, with juice), and then you add the shrimp in the last few minutes and let it simmer.

Served over rice! We had some extra shrimp on hand so I added more and we have leftovers for me to enjoy for lunch today. This was a Sun Basket (<- affiliate link for 3 free meals) dish. 🙂 I’m so into shrimp lately – so easy and summery!

I’m working from a local coffee shop this morning because I had an AnneTheRD nutrition client here first thing. They have an outdoor space so I’m enjoying the fresh air while I work! Have a great day guys 🙂

Yes, we are feeling much more cooler here in Kentucky today, too. I swear, I am so over the heat. Bring on the Pumpkin Spice and sweaters!

I'm curious how you set up Zara's basement access - did you put a cat door up in the basement door? We're moving to a house where the basement will be the cat's domain in a few weeks, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to give her access to it without leaving the door open - we have a 2 year old who isn't allowed down there without an adult.

Yep! We have this cat gate. The opening may be big enough for a toddler, though, just FYI!

It was so much cooler this morning, it was the perfect temp and humidity level for a nice morning run! I am so thankful and hopeful the humidity stays at bay for a bit!

Definitely wasn't crisp here this morning, but it was a little cooler out - we sat outside and drank our coffee and soaked it up. I normally love hot weather, but I remember being SO hot when I was pregnant last summer so I'm glad you're getting a break from the heat!

Yeah, the heat definitely feels worse with the pregnancy situation, that's for sure!

I remember the first tiem the kitty and the puppy slept on the couch together, it was a long time later but I felt like there was finally peace. Little improvements mean integration! ha ha

Oh man, I don't think they'll be napping on the couch together anytime soon... but here's hoping!! That would be adorable. :)
