I played hooky for a bit on Wednesday to enjoy a special lunch date with my mom for her birthday!

We went to Fiola Mare on the Georgetown waterfront, which we both love. Too hot to sit outside, but we had some nice views of the water from inside in the air conditioning which was perfect. 😉

We started with the drinks above (green juice for me, watermelon juice for my mom – both delicious), and then we got some Prosecco too. 😉

I started with the burrata for my appetizer and helped my mom with her salad!

I’m OBSESSED with burrata – anyone else? It’s sooo good.

For my entree, I had the crab cake. Also really delicious! And just the right amount of food – that burrata was super filling.

Had to get dessert, too!

We shared the Lemon Spumoni, which was muscovado cake, limoncello gelatin, sorrento lemon sorbetto, and cherries. The lemon sorbet was my favorite – so tart and bright!

Such a nice treat to get to have a fun meal out with my mom for her birthday!

Other meals this week were much less pretty… I was solo parenting because Matt was away on a work trip, so I had a lot of random throw together meals.

Here’s one of them – some frozen shrimp and peas I sauteed in a little oil and garlic, thrown atop wilted spinach and leftover orzo with some lemon juice. It reminded me of a low key version of this old fave recipe: Shrimp, Cucumber, and Feta Orzo Salad.

My mom and I took Riese out for dinner one of the other nights this week – we went to Lebanese Taverna, which is always a win because Riese loves their pita bread and hummus – and so do we!

Great salads, too, and I had enough leftovers for a dinner later in the week.

Speaking of Riese – her hair is officially long enough to do a teeny tiny ponytail!

Doesn’t it make her look so grown up?! Ahhhh!!

Besides chasing Riese around the playground and the pool, my fitness this week was mostly a lot of walking – it was so hot out but we had to get the dog some exercise every morning as usual, and the fresh air is always good for everyone.

With Matt gone most of the week, I wasn’t able to do my usual early morning yoga classes or run dates, but I did also get in a nap-time workout/stretch sesh with Paul from Capital Energy Training – love that he comes to you! So convenient. And good to see him as it had been ages since we’d done a workout together.

And now, I’m signing off and flying north!

Matt and I are heading to Maine this weekend – one of my best friends from college is getting married.

I can’t wait to see everyone, to enjoy Maine in July (especially the slightly cooler weather – still looks like it will be hot but not 100 degrees like DC, yikes), and to celebrate the happy couple! Matt’s parents came into town last night to watch Riese while we’re away – huge thank you to them for taking over for us!

Have a great weekend and I’ll see you back here on Monday for a Maine recap. 🙂

Gosh, Riese looks so grown up with that pony tail! So cute! Enjoy your weekend away, especially after a week of solo parenting!! I bet the slightly cooler/less humid temps in Maine will feel SO GOOD. It's been so hot and humid here this week. Not as bad you guys, but today our heat index will be around 100-110F! I'm trying not to complain because our summers are so so short. But I feel so gross in this kind of heat/humidity!!

Enjoy Maine - and let us know the temps! (We are near Big Sky, Montana for a few days and the temperatures at night are in the 50s and dry, and the days have been 75 or so. Perfect! Dreading the return to the East.)
