Running + Wine = Happy.

Hello, hello!

Let’s pretend it’s still the weekend, okay? Mine was so fun I want to go back to it.

Saturday morning started with an 8 mile half marathon training run with new friend Callie!

Callie is a local blog reader that emailed me a couple weeks ago wanting to meet up for a run since most of her friends are sadly not into exercise. I was happy to oblige — you guys know how I love workout buddies! :)

Not surprising given her blog name (Smiles from Callie), Callie was super sweet and cute. It was a pleasure to chat with her for 8 miles! We had beautiful weather, too. Here are our stats:

  • Mile 1: 8:36
  • Mile 2: 9:01
  • Mile 3: 8:51
  • Mile 4: 8:59
  • Mile 5: 8:41
  • Mile 6: 9:15
  • Mile 7: 9:01
  • Mile 8: 9:10

Overall time: 1:11:36 — average pace 8:57. Yay! I haven’t ran that far since March!

Thanks for keeping me company on my run, Callie! We must run together again soon. :)

I got home from my run right around the same time Matt got home from a soccer game — we were both starving and decided it would be fun to go out to brunch. We headed to Jessee’s in Carrboro!

I had the omelette special — which was all sorts of veggies with cheese — plus home fries and a side of bacon, of course. :)

I also had some of their homemade iced tea — Earl Grey with lavender — so good!

After we finished eating we hung out on their patio while trying to figure out afternoon plans. We wanted to hit up a winery but couldn’t find any doing any fun events (we wanted something like Cork ‘n’ Pork again!) and didn’t think we wanted to drive aways just for a simple tasting, so we decided to head back home, dejected.

And then — it was fate. Look what we found!

Why, it’s a wine tasting!! Outside at Weaver Street Market!

$7 for a glass and then all the wine you could taste. Clearly we were immediately on board.

I was pumped.

IMG_0065 This is my “Look! We found a wine tasting!” face, in case you couldn’t tell.

We got right down to business.

Matt being a wine snob:

I’m not sure there’s a better way to spend a gorgeous Saturday than hanging around outside tasting wine. It was the best.

There was even a band to entertain us:

And we ran into my grad school classmate Meghan! Meghan came to the tasting alone thinking it was going to be a small, one table, taste a few wines then peace out type event — not so much. :) She joined us for the second half of the tasting, yay!

Best wine name ever.

Here’s the wine we bought:

Juuuuuust kidding. ;) That was the cart holding all the empties. They must have gone through a TON of wine at this event!

When we were done tasting, Meghan headed out and Matt and I bought a bottle and hung out at the picnic tables enjoying it.

Don’t worry, I used a glass. See?

More friends came to join us a little while later — Khalil, Steph, and Elle. :)

Yay :) After hanging out for awhile, we all ended our night with dinner at Milltown — every single one of us got burgers and fries and they were delicious. I don’t have burgers that often but when I’m craving one, they are the best.

Such a fun Saturday. And I was in bed by 10 p.m., which also makes me happy. :)

Sadly the party is now over — it’s Monday once again and I’m heading off to class! Busy day ahead with a group project meeting, biochem class, etc.

Let’s keep the weekend alive — what fun things did you guys get into this weekend?

  1. 1

    That breakfast looks so amazing.

  2. 2

How fun! I loved these pictures :D

  3. 3

I swear my person motto should be “will run for wine.” Sounds like a wonderful day!

  4. 5

Your Sunday sounds like my Saturday! I did my long run then went to a beer tasting! Such a great way to celebrate! :)

  5. 6

Your weekend looks fabulous. I love wine but unfortunately, I get looped after 2 glasses. I can’t hold my alcohol at all. I would have been looking for a place to fall asleep.TeeHee

  6. 7

Looks like a great day!! I love your outfit too!

  7. 8

    Looks like fun!

After spending 11 hours Friday at the hospital just to get 1 unit of blood I spent Saturday doing a whole lot of nothing (got out of the hospital at midnight so I was tired)! Well, other than scoping out my neighbor’s yard sale and finishing the tutu for my peacock halloween costume (tail is next weekend’s project). Sunday was a girls trip to Myrtle Beach, we shopped (got lots of deals, NY&Company outlet = my favorite store), found a great black Michael Kors bag (been looking for 2 years for one I love), and tasted some delicious foods! Rounded out the weekend with a bonfire in my neighbor’s backyard with my dogs…very chill weekend!

I am super jealous of that wine tasting! We have a Cheese & Wine fest around here in a couple weeks and I hope it has a similar set-up. Looks like an awesome day!

  9. 11

That sounds like a wonderful Saturday. :) I can’t think of two better things—wine and running! I ran 6 miles Saturday and the weather was so incredibly gorgeous. It made my entire day. Then I went to a wedding of one of my BFFs and enjoyed some wine as well!

  10. 12

A dear friend from high school got married. It was the most perfect, beautiful fall wedding. So much fun!

  11. 13

I love days where you have a ton of fun, and still make it to bed by 10pm! I’m not much of a late night partier… Haha. I watchedy brother’s friend run in the Chicago marathon (after running 7 miles myself!) and I had two great dinners and went on an architecture boat tour with my grandparents who were in town!

  12. 15

I got to visit my Grandfather on his 77th Birthday! It was such a special weekend that I will always remember. :) Looks like you had a wonderful time as well! :)

  13. 17

I love your leather bag you’re carrying. Where did you get it?
The wine event looked so fun! I need something like that in my town. I love me some wine, too!

  14. 19

I spent Friday night in baking for a weekend away with friends! Saturday/Sunday was a weekend getaway in Cape Cod. :)

  15. 21

I want some Woop Woop wine with ya! Running + wine would make me happy too. How awesome you stumbled across that little tasting. It was meant to be.

  16. 22

How lucky that you found a wine tasting. I love when little coincidences like that happen! They deserve a little Woop Woop.

  17. 24

Love! Looks like such a fun day – I’m happy we spent some of it together :) and those burgers were totally necessary/delicious/worth it.

  18. 25

Starting a day with an awesome Run, and ending it with great Wine…. is the recipe to the perfect day!

    Woop. Woop. :-)

  19. 26

Had a great weekend here, too! My honey and I got a sandwich, then took a long walk down by the Columbia River on Friday evening. Saturday, he had to work, so I was able to focus on cooking and cleaning; we had roasted zucchini and eggplant lasagna and roasted broccoli for dinner. Sunday, we had split pea soup for lunch, then hiked through McNary Wildlife Refuge. Fun and some good exercise!

  20. 27

Yay for 8 miles! Thanks again for being such an awesome running buddy! We must do it again :) Also, that wine tasting at Weaver Street looks like so much fun! That whole part of Carrboro is my favorite…especially running over to Maple View for dessert :)

  21. 28

I love Woop-Woop wines! That looked like a great event. It poured rain over all of FLA this weekend, so I’m super jealous of your weekend.
