Hello and happy Wednesday!

It’s been so fun being home in D.C. and seeing good friends 🙂 Last night my friend Heidi had me over for dinner at her place!

Save Recipe

We made a tasty chicken, brown rice, and veggie stir fry. Yum!

013

009

Check out her rice cooker! I totally want one of these.

005

I mean, I know a pot of boiling water on the stove will do the same thing as a rice cooker… but rice cookers just seem cooler 😉 In goes the dry rice, and then 30 to 40 minutes later — voila! Perfectly cooked rice, with no stirring or work on your part. It’s magic 🙂

011

While cooking and chatting, we enjoyed some of this tasty Spanish wine that I brought. Winter and cold weather just screams red wine to me!

006

See the cute little plastic bull attached to the top? Hehe.

The finished product:

018

Cute chop sticks!

021

Thanks again for feeding me, Heidi! It was great catching up 🙂

When I came home, I enjoyed one of these Adora dark chocolate calcium supplement discs for dessert!

006

I was sent these awhile ago to review and Matt and I are HUGE fans. I’m not a big chocolate person, but everyone once in awhile I do like a piece of super dark chocolate. So instead of regular dark chocolate, I’ve been having these now!

002

Each Adora supplement is only 30 calories AND contains 500mg of calcium, which is half of your necessary daily calcium intake. (For reference — a regular piece of dark chocolate would only be about 5 to 10% of your daily calcium intake.) Plus — they taste amazing! If you’re taking a calcium supplement in pill form… buy these instead. So much yummier 🙂

The discs come in either creamy milk chocolate (Matt’s favorite) or delicious dark chocolate (my favorite). Check out their website for more information and to order!

001

Want a chance to win some Adora chocolate calcium supplements of your very own? I’ll be doing a fun Twitter—based giveaway around 3 p.m. EST today for one bag each of Adora milk and dark chocolate discs. Make sure you are following me on Twitter and keep an eye out for the giveaway notice right around 3! It will be fun 🙂

Have a great day!

A rice cooker is at the top of my Christmas list this year. I love rice, but it seems like it's always a gamble when you cook it on the stove--sometimes it turns out perfectly, sometimes not so much. I love that you can just throw it in the rice cooker, ignore it, and end up with awesome rice.

I had no idea the Adora discs also had vitamin D3 and magnesium. I take those anyway, so I'd love to eat them in chocolate form instead of chalky pills. I'll try to remember to hop on Twitter at 3!

I will make sure I am home at 3 today to follow you on twitter. I love dark chocolate too. My family says I have bitter taste buds. I am doing this reply without my glasses, I broke them, I hope I didn't have my fingers on the wrong keys. Hahaha

You should definitely look into getting a rice cooker. I use mine all the time! It can make beans and quinoa, too.

I love having friends over to dinner and when they invite me over to dinner. Sometimes it's even more fun than going out, especially when winter strikes. There is just something so cozy and comforting and dare I say (I know this makes me a dork) comforting about it. I have to admit I'm not an Adora fan. I tried them after hearing about them on Tina's blog and the texture just bothered me.

Have you tried cooking rice in the oven? I find that whenever I do it on the stove it sticks! This is what I do: - set oven to 375F - boil 1.5 cups of water - place 3/4 cup of rice in an oven safe dish - add the boiling water - pop into the oven for 35-40 minutes and voila! The rice cooks without being watched and I don't need another appliance in my tiny galley kitchen.

Whoa! I'd never thought to cook rice in the oven before... it doesn't dry it out?

Every oven is different so it might take a few tries getting the timing and the temp right. I usually check on it 5 minutes before I think it should be done, fluff it with a fork and then alter my time as necessary. Personally, I don't find the rice dry but it's definitely not sticky. Oh ... and normally I do this with brown rice or Jasmine rice.

I'm a horrible rice cooker. In fact, I never cook it because I'm that bad at cooking rice. I think I need a rice cooker! I'll have to try the Adora calcium chocolates! I feel like I could always use more calcium!

Billy and I just got a rice cooker as a wedding gift and broke it in last night! It IS magic, isn't it? I'm already obsessed. Can't wait to cook quinoa, oatmeal, etc. Love Adora - did a giveaway a few months ago on my blog. Billy loves the milk chocolate and I like the dark - just like y'all. :)
