I had such a great trail run this morning with my new friends and fellow masters students! 001

I love trail running and I’m so excited to know this trail is nearby! I’m also super excited to already have running buddies — that’s the hardest thing about moving to a new place as far as I’m concerned. 😉

003

We ran 5.14 miles in about 54 minutes. It’s hard to run fast on a hilly and rocky trail — gotta watch your feet so you don’t fall! 🙂

004

Are you guys fans of trail running? I think running on a trail makes running SO much more entertaining. We had a blast maneuvering through the hilly, rocky terrain and chatting away the whole time.

After the run, I bonded with an old friend — my foam roller! If you’re a runner and you don’t own one of these, I’d really recommend getting one! It made SUCH a huge difference for me when I was training for my first half marathon in the spring. Really helps with soreness and muscle recovery!

005

Speaking of my half marathon, look what I finally got around to buying for my car! 😀

011

13.1, baby! 🙂

After my run, I met up with a high school friend for lunch (so excited to have an old friend nearby!) and then headed to Franklin Street (the main drag in Chapel Hill) to meet a friend from DC who is in town!

014

Hi Kristen! 🙂

We walked around, chatted, and decided that the only solution for such a hot day was frozen yogurt. Duh.

017

🙂

I’m off to enjoy a rocking Saturday night by myself — Matt left this morning for a week-long work trip. Boo! I figure since I have no plans I should try to get some work done so I can play tomorrow 🙂 However… I have a TV for the first time in 2 years. We just got it hooked up yesterday and I forgot how awesome TV is! This could be dangerous. I am so out of the loop and don’t know what most of the shows are. Also, why are commercials so much louder than the regular shows?!

I LOVE trail running and don't get to do it enough in the city! Enjoy a nice TV filled weekend, sometimes those are the best!

Beautiful scenery. I went about 2 months without a TV last year after mine broke and I was deciding if I wanted to get another one or not. I finally succumbed. It was nice for two months to actually talk to my husband. When he gets in front of a TV and I'm talking to him, I get ( whatever you think dear, shh shh shh). I'm thinking of cutting the wires. Not. It's a good thing I am comfortable with my own company. Love

I am the TV queen...if you want suggestions for shows, let me know! I maybe (maybe) watch a little bit (OK, much) too much TV. :)

Hahaha! Have fun with the TV! I did my first trial run 2 months ago, and it was getting dark when I was getting ready to finish. I spent the entire time staring at my feet. I was so worried I would trip and fall!

Wow, looks like a great trail! And glad you've got some running buddies, too. Terrific news. But quick: pull the plug on the TV! :-)

I love your 13.1 sticker!! I can't wait to order one of my own! I agree with you on the foam rolling. It hurts so good. :) I'm pretty sure we have the same roller...Wal-Mart? Good job on your run today, trails are tough terrain!

A trail that doesn't end in a prank - yay!! I went trail running w/ a group last Thursday and it was SO FUN - definitely harder to maneuver around, but such a cool/gorgeous distraction :) but holy whoa, sore muscles... "the only solution for such a {hot day} was frozen yogurt." - hot day, post-meal, afternoon break, Anne/Heather outing...the list goes on...

We have some fun trails here in Quantico but I'm scared to try them because of my ankles :( My parents pulled the plug on our TV when I was in high school so I got used to not having it. I do like to listen to the news while I do housework, I figure I can learn something at the same time. I hardly ever sit down to watch anything, I just can't sit still that long. However, if I do those chips and salsa are a good companion ;)

Commercials ARE so much louder than shows! I hate that. I'm trying to wean myself off of TV, although I love it too :-)

Love the trail shots. I need to head out into the woods more often for running. I am loving CHUCK right now. Totally have gotten sucked in through netflix and can't wait for the new season to start at the end of Sept.

I'm a masters student in the public health school at UNC also (HPM dept). I don't recognize that trail and am always looking for new places! What's that one called? Have you checked out the trails at Carolina North?

Hey Shelley! The trail was out of the Chapel Hill Community Center area... I'm not sure what the actual trail is called though! Where is Carolina North?

Carolina North is great. There's a bunch of trails over there. Just go up MLK, pass Estes, and take a left onto Municipal. It's not rocky at all, and is still a dirt trail. I'm still confused where you ran, and I want to go there! Is it the community center off Estes? I'm surprised I haven't seen this section that you ran on.

I absolutely LOVE the new frozen yogurt place on Franklin Street! I think their Green Tea flavor may be my favorite. That with kiwi was the best end to my Saturday this past weekend. That trail looks so familiar - did it connect up with campus anywhere? There's a short trail that runs out there from Battle Park that I used to run, but it's always uphill coming back to campus, which kills me! (I'm an undergrad biology major at UNC, btw :D)

I think it does actually connect to campus - two of the other girls were doing a 10 miler and I'm pretty sure they were talking about doing some of it on campus! :)

Trail running is fun but I'm always nervous I'll twist an ankle. I think I need to buy myself a foam roller!!
