Winter Wonderland

On the day after Christmas in Pittsburgh, it snowed. One day late, but we’ll take it. What started as this:

Quickly turned into this:

Cue the excitement! Given that Matt and I lived in NC for the past couple years, it’s been awhile since we’ve seen snow. His brother Chris and wife Jess were equally pumped (they live in NC now). The four of us and their younger brother Drew all suited up in whatever winter gear was around in the house (hence Matt wearing neon yellow) and headed out to play. The green parka I’m wearing was a Christmas gift from my mom. Perfect timing! 🙂

Obviously, we did a little sledding. I’m glad Matt’s parents still had these sleds lying around!

Weeeee!

Maggie, Chris and Jess’s adorable dog, also came out to play. Her first time seeing snow and she loved it! She took a ride on the sled with them, too, and had a blast.

Since we were snowed in all day, movie plans were cancelled and instead we decided to make a gingerbread house! Jess gave Chris a gingerbread house kit for Christmas, so all of us decided to make it a team effort.

The kit included the gingerbread pieces already ready to go, so all we had to do was make the icing and decorate it! Matt whipped up some icing for us (yes, half of it is on his shirt):

And then we set to work assembling the house!

Then came the fun part – decorating! We each took a side and got down to business. The kit came with some candy, and we supplemented it with some random stuff we found in the pantry, too!

An hour or so later, and we had a masterpiece!

Here’s my side. 🙂

And Matt did the front yard! It was his idea to turn the pecans into a fence – genius. I love the M&M cobblestone walkway, too!

With the leftover icing, we made some snowmen to hang out in the front. 🙂

What a FUN day! I need to do stuff like that more often. We all had such a blast!

What fun winter-y or Christmas-y activities have you gotten into this week?

Wow, what an impressive gingerbread house! When my sisters and I make one, it always ends up looking pretty, uhhh, rough. ;)

Looks like fun. So glad it doesn't snow much in Georgia. I don't like driving in it. I love your parka and that precious little dog. Psst. Matt's ring looks a little loose. I was throwing a ball to one of my grandsons and my ring slipped right off my hand. It took two days to find the ring. So glad we found it.

What a fun day! We had a few brief snow storms in PA throughout the past week, but yesterday we got a good 4-5 inches! I'm not such a fan of being outdoors in the snow, but I do enjoy watching it fall from inside my warm house! :-)
