A Fun 6 Miler

Hey friends! I decided to do a throwback style post today and write about a fun run I had recently!

(I know I have been writing a little more about running lately since I’m training for a half marathon in mid March, but usually just as a mention within a post about something else.)

I used to do running recap posts all the time back in the day when I posted more frequently, and sometimes I miss doing more quick, casual posts like that! So, in honor of half marathon training, let’s do this.

On Monday right after dropping the kids at school I went for a great run with my friend Katie (whose kids go to school with mine). And yes, I know, it feels like SUCH a gift to do runs right after drop off instead of at 6am.

I do a lot of 6am yoga classes these days, but for running it’s so nice to run in light vs. dark.

Anyway, Katie and I run together every Monday and it’s been a really nice routine. This Monday was an absolute gorgeous treat of a day, too!

Hello, sunshine! I feel like it has been a bit of a gray winter so this was much appreciated.

Katie and I were in a routine of just doing a few miles around our neighborhood for the Monday runs, but since we are both training for the half marathon we’ve started bringing the distance up.

More distance is fun because it means we can do more interesting routes/loops!

This week, we ran from Del Ray through Old Town Alexandria and down to the waterfront. It was gorgeous down there.

Running buddies FTW. I always enjoy runs more with company!

From the waterfront, we headed north towards the Mt. Vernon trail, with more lovely water views along the way.

We exited the Mt. Vernon trail at Slater’s Lane and headed through that area back into Del Ray.

This was such a great run – I felt really good the whole time and it gave me confidence that maybe I can actually run 13.1 miles again in March for the first time since 2016.

We made it 6 miles and I felt like I could have kept going! Still a long way to go to get up to 13, I know, but I’m making progress and that’s a good feeling.

Post-run I’ve been really into avocado toast lately – this one had mashed avocado, a little lemon juice, salt and pepper, fried egg, and microgreens on toast.

Great combo and my normal go-to as of late.

And that’s all I have for you today! I hope you have a great weekend, and I’ll catch you back here next week.

p.s. In case you need some food inspiration for this weekend, check out this post: my fave Healthy Super Bowl Snack Recipes. I probably won’t actually watch the game, but we are heading to a friend’s house with the kids for a playdate and Super Bowl snack session on Sunday afternoon, which will be fun!
