Good morning!

First things first: going to a BBQ this weekend and need something to bring? Try my Healthy Deviled Eggs! No mayo here, just deliciousness 🙂

Or my Hummus Guacamole!

Or my Oatmeal Banana Coconut Cookies 🙂

I hope you’re all enjoying your holiday weekends. It’s a beautiful day here in D.C. — perfect for a run! So that’s just what I did 🙂

001

Heather, Ashley, and I met up this morning for a 6 miler in Georgetown along the Capital Crescent Trail.

005

It was gorgeous! We’ve had a big break in the humidity and it’s felt like fall weather all this week. It’s starting to heat up again this weekend, but still way better than it has been!

We had a great run — the best I’ve had in quite awhile, in fact! Maybe my speed is finally coming back? I lost a lot of it when we started doing crazy long runs in crazy hot weather while training for the half marathon.

We ran 6 miles in 51:38, for an average pace of 8:36.

  • Mile 1: 8:45
  • Mile 2: 8:50
  • Mile 3: 8:39
  • Mile 4: 8:32
  • Mile 5: 8:25
  • Mile 6: 8:25

Woohoo! I love running with Heather and Ashley 🙂 We had a blast chatting away the entire time. I’m going to miss them when I move!

After the run, Heather headed on home and Ashley and I sat on the wall overlooking the water for a bit while we cooled down.

008

It was fun watching all the kayakers go by 🙂

009

Now it’s time to get back to homework, sadly. I didn’t get as much done yesterday as I wanted to, mostly because any attempt at work came to a screeching halt when I came face to face with a MOUSE in the cupboard in the kitchen. The mouse stared in shock, I screamed and slammed the door; I’m not sure who was more terrified. Needless to say, I spent the rest of the night freaking out, including enlisting the help of my neighbor’s cat to try to get it to catch the mouse. Instead, the cat just stared at me and my neighbor, like, “Wtf am I doing in here?” and proceeded to go hide under my bed. Sigh. Now I’m clearly scared to do anything that involves the kitchen.

And yes, I know I’m a total wimp. Mice are scary!

Yeah there's traps out now... but now I'm terrified I will actually catch one and have to deal with it then! Lol

Sorry about your mouse problems. I would have freaked, too. Several years, when we lived in Hawaii, we had a huge mice problem; I even encountered a wet mouse that was hiding in my washing machine! I'm in NoVa and the weather has been SO beautiful the past few days, but it's already hotter today. It was good while it lasted! Have a great holiday weekend.

I can handle a lot of things, but mice are NOT one of them - they really freak me out, so I am right there with you! I had an AWFUL experience with a mouse infestation in one of the places I lived during college (it was seriously like living in The Nutcracker) and for weeks after the worst of it, I imagined that I was seeing mice all over the place. Two years ago there was a dead mouse in a trap in my kitchen and I had to call a friend to dump it for me because I screamed and shuddered every time I got near it....so yeah, you're not a wimp in my book!!

That Avocado hummus has my heart, it is beautiful! Nom. Love the pics, as usual! :) It's probably a good thing I still had some mileage to make up - I was starving within ~5 minutes of stopping and would've eaten my hand if I had stayed to hang out. That's not fun for anyone... ;) Happy 4th!

My mom is the same way about mice! When I was living there she would always have me try to get them out the door. She is even afraid of them when they are dead, so if the cats found them first I'd have to deal with the remains, too. Talk about gross!
