A Muddy 12 Miler

Good morning!

First things first — please don’t forget to vote for me! The contest ends tomorrow (Tuesday) at noon and I am SO grateful for the support you have shown me :) Thank you!

In other news — I can’t believe it but… I ran 12 miles yesterday morning!! And… it went great! :)

Look how muddy my shoes/legs/everything were when we finished! All the rain this weekend made the trail rather soupy. We were SO dirty!

I decided to test out my race day outfit on the run. I’m in the Brooks I.D. program, so I’ll be rocking their sponsored athlete apparel in two weeks at my half marathon! I was a huge fan — it was very comfy and nice and light/airy.

As stated on their website, Brooks I.D. athletes use their athletic talent to help carry out the Brooks mission: To inspire people to run and be active. It’s made up of over 800 athletes who are active in their running communities and share a passion for the Brooks brand. (Ya’ll know I love me some Brooks running shoes!) As part of the program, Brooks ID sponsored athletes get 40% off all Brooks products and receive a fun outfit to wear at races. I’ve actually been a member of the program since like January, but didn’t receive my outfit until recently due to some website glitches!

The outfit is kind of hilarious because it’s literally the BRIGHTEST thing I’ve ever seen in my life. Ashley burst out laughing when she saw me and we decided to do an Anne version of “Where’s Waldo?” Lol… can you spot me? ;)

Hehe. The photos don’t even do it justice!

Anyway — on to the run! We ended up doing 12 miles in 1:54:12, for an average pace of 9:31. Woohoo! We decided to take it a little slower so we didn’t burn ourselves out, and it definitely worked. I felt great for pretty much the whole run — it was only the last two miles or so that I started to feel a bit tired, and even then it was all good!

Our splits — we didn’t stop at all!

  • Mile 1: 9:17
  • Mile 2: 9:20
  • Mile 3: 9:24
  • Mile 4: 9:48
  • Mile 5: 9:36
  • Mile 6: 9:50
  • Mile 7: 9:50
  • Mile 8: 9:19
  • Mile 9: 9:28
  • Mile 10: 9:29
  • Mile 11: 9:30
  • Mile 12: 9:20

Definitely not my fastest run, but that’s not what we were aiming for! We had a great time chatting and catching up the whole time, and the miles flew by, especially since we had to focus on dodging lots of mud puddles ;)

I’m feeling excited and prepared for the half in two weeks. My only goal is to finish under two hours. For those of you that are newer readers to the blog — this will be my very first half marathon! You can check out more details and my full training plan on my training page. :)

Have a great Monday — and don’t forget about the two giveaways I have going on right now! Both end tomorrow :)

  1. 1

yay! That is great! I really think this half marathon will be a piece of cake for you. When we ran together for Fitbloggin, I just could understand why you hadn’t run a half before! Good luck, chica!

  2. 2

Congrats on an awesome run! And how could you stop with that killer outfit? LoL, I bet you were on fire! :)

  3. 4

Muddy runs are the BEST! I feel so hardcore and accomplished after :0)

  4. 5

Great job on the run! Those pictures in your bright outfit cracked me up.

  5. 6

Great run, Anne. Well done! And great photos, great outfit, and great splits, too! Looks like you’ll be in good shape to break two hours in the half-marathon if you can avoid going out too fast and also avoid slowing down too much in the middle/end. Again, well done!

  6. 7

BAHAHAHAhahahaha . . . those pictures are hilarious!

  7. 8

Awesome run – great pacing for a long run! I ran my first 1/2 at the beginning of May and it was the happiest day! You are so ready to race :)

  8. 9

Yeah I got caught in a downpour yesterday on my morning run. I should have waited till the afternoon but the weather app on my iPhone said it had a higher chance of rain. Anyway, great job on the run and seriously you should have no problem running your half marathon!

  9. 10

What a rockin’ run you had! That half marathon won’t even know what hit it. :) LOL on your Brooks apparel. Could they have chosen anything more fluorescent-looking? I love the Brooks line, but it’s like they were trying to make the most ridiculous shirts they possibly could. Again though, you rocked it. :)

  10. 11

It looks like you’re hiding behind the bushes to take a leak, but in that shirt you’re gonna get spotted! Hope you don’t have to do that on race day ;)

  11. 13

    LOL, cute photos!! :)

Wow, 12 miles! That’s awesome. Congrats!

  12. 14

    Congratulations on a great run!

I love my Brooks Adrenaline as well – such wonderful running shoes.

  13. 15

    Awesome run!!! You rock girl!

  14. 16

SWEET!! I’m no where near the 12 mile mark, but isn’t adding miles so awesome??

  15. 17

Great Run! How do you get your garmin to count calories? Mine doesn’t do that!

    • 18

Just go to Mode -> Settings -> General -> Data Fields -> Main 1. From there you can select the amount of fields you want and what data you want to show in each! :)

  16. 19

nice work!! the good part about an obnoxiously bright race-outift is that your fans will have no trouble spotting you on the run and cheering for you ;)

if you can rock 12 with no problems, you’ll be FINE for that 13.1!

  17. 20

you’re so adorable :) you make 12 miles look fun…and you’re going to do amazing in the half! go get ’em :)

  18. 21

Ha! You are beyond cute. I had a sweatshirt that color in the early 90s. I used to wear it with bright pink leggings. I wish I were kidding.

  19. 22

This is awesome!! Congrats on the 12 miles…definitely a huge accomplishment! Also, I LOVE wearing obnoxious bright colors when I work out…too much fun!

  20. 23

    haha love the outfit! ;)

  21. 24

Congratulations! Try taking those 9:50 miles and starting at that pace. You’ll be amazed how well you feel for the rest of it (and starting slow and finishing fast is like a game within a game, you beat yourself almost every mile). You’re going to run well under 2 hours!

  22. 25

Great splits! Haha, love the Where’s Anne?!

  23. 26

You will TOTALLY finish in less than 2 hrs! That run was muddy and sans screaming sideline spectators and a finish line!

    Love the BRIGHT outfit :)

  24. 27

I love wearing bright colors too. And congrats on the distance! That is so great, and you make increasing mileage look easy. And you did it a day after hiking! That is impressive too.
P.S. I am linking to your blog tomorrow about your cinnamon raisin almond balls. Mmmm.

  25. 28

haha that top is quite bright!!!
Great work on the run though!

  26. 29

Great job on the 12 miles! And that is a LOUD slinglet!

  27. 30

Wow – congrats on the amazing run, Anne!
    You´re tough :D
    Have a great week, girl!
    Brazilian XOXO´s,

  28. 31

I voted for you! :) Now, if you win I can live vicariously through you. Congrats on the run!!! I love your outfit. ;-)
