Hi guys! Let’s start off Friday with a smile – check out Zara in her favorite new sleeping spot. So cute! <3

She has the right idea staying snuggled up indoors – it got insanely cold here the past couple days. No bueno!

Luckily I’ve been staying warm with some inside workouts. On Tuesday morning, Chelsea and I hit up Definitions in Georgetown for their morning boot camp via ClassPass (<- affiliate link for $30 off). Love that class! DeShay, the instructor, takes videos of the classes sometimes for their Facebook page – and she ended up putting together this cool workout video collage for us! How fun! Thank you DeShay – great workout and we love the video. 🙂

Yesterday’s boot camp adventure was a morning Urban Athletic Club class via ClassPass, with Chelsea again and our friend Kathleen! I love our workout gang. 🙂 This class is always so good too, and hard – lots of lunges, squats, burpees, wall balls, kettlebell swings, etc! Post-class sweaty selfie:

I showered at the gym and walked to my coworking space after so I snacked on a Kate Bakes Bar while waiting for the shower. I’ve determined it’s key for me to eat a snack before a workout (usually toast with nut butter or something similar) and something immediately after or else I end up hangry. This bar tided me over until breakfast at my desk about an hour later (the same thing I had in this day in the life post – a whole milk latte and an egg/quinoa/avocado cup from Pret).

In other workout news, I’m back to working with Paul from Capital Energy Training! As you guys know we started doing a blog/training exchange earlier this year and he has been awesome – fixed my hip pain issue and has helped me build complimentary strength for running. (We pay for Matt to work with him weekly now too!)

We hadn’t had a session since the Marine Corps Marathon due to scheduling issues (I was traveling, then he was traveling, etc.), so it was good to be back and see him Wednesday! I’ve been bad about doing stretches (besides yoga classes) without him and my hips are feeling quite tight again. This week one of the things we did had me sliding back and forth (building lateral strength) on this fun slippery mat. It had little bumpers on each side to stop me, and I put soft covers over my shoes so I slid on it. It felt like sliding around on a hardwood floor in socks – so fun!

As for fitness today, it’s TBD! I was originally thinking of doing a short run with Matt this morning because we’re both working from home, but it’s aggressively cold out (with windchill it’s in the single digits – ew) and I wimped out. I might try a run later this afternoon – or just do a yoga class or something. Or enjoy a rest day. 🙂 Either way, it was nice to sleep in this morning because we were out late last night at the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert! Very cool – basically 2 hours of electric guitar with insane lights, and most of it was Christmas music.

And now I’ll leave you with a picture of one of our favorite Sun Basket (<- affiliate link for 3 free meals) dinners this week – this shrimp with blood orange jicama salad and salsa verde was so good! I always forget how easy and delicious shrimp is – it cooks so quickly! I added some 90 second plain brown rice to the meal because it needed more carbs but the flavor was spot on.

If you love shrimp, too, here are some of my favorite recipes already here on the blog:

  • Shrimp, Spinach, & Tomato Omelet(te) (an old one with terrible photos but so good)
  • Caribbean Shrimp Quinoa Salad
  • Shrimp, Cucumber, and Feta Orzo Salad
  • Goat Cheese Shrimp with Rice & Veggies (another old one with reeeeeally terrible photos but so yummy)

Have a great weekend and stay warm, my friends! What was your fave workout or meal from this week?

A few faves from around the web:

  • Mindfulness tips for eating Christmas cookies
  • Coconut Oil Peppermint Bark
  • 12 Days of Fitness Workout (love Gina’s workouts!)

Looks like your having a good time enjoying post marathon life! My favorite workout last week a little 5K I did last weekend or my last orange theory workout! I have been eating weird on the account of my root canal so I'm looking forward to solid meals this week!

The video for the workout class looks like fun! Most of the time I like to workout on my own, but other times I crave the community and motivation that I get from other people in a fitness class.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra is coming here on 12/30 and have been on the fence about going - did you enjoy it enough that you would go again or is it like a one time and you're good experience? And I love the sliding mat!! it looks like fun

Your workout gang sounds like so much fun and that concert sounds amazing too! My favourite workout from the past week was two big beach walks with my sister this weekend. We took my Mum and Dad away for Dad's 60th birthday and spent the whole weekend playing on the beach, going for big walks, and eating ice cream. Just what I needed at the end of this year :) Stay warm!
