Hey everyone!
I had another kick butt personal training workout this morning at LA Boxing. I am seriously going to be in the best shape of my life after this partnership! I’ve been going three times a week (twice to group kickboxing classes, and once to personal training), and I’m seriously considering cancelling my Golds Gym membership… LA Boxing is way more fun.
If you’re a new reader, check out my previous LA Boxing related posts and kick-butt workouts. They will give you some good ideas for ramping up your own workouts!
- LA Boxing gets fANNEtastic!
- Why do you exercise?
- Personal training — week 1: a kick-butt conditioning workout
- Personal training — week 2: boxing and self defense moves
- Personal training — week 3: dripping sweat, but still laughing!
Today’s workout was a mix of boxing/self defense and full body conditioning. I love that the moves Jerome (my trainer) has me do all target numerous body parts at once, in addition to getting my heart pumping! Very efficient
We started out with the weighted medicine ball! First, I had to do lunges around the gym while holding the ball. Then, I had to lift the ball above my head, put it on the floor in front of me, and do a sprawl (e.g. drop down into a plank) on top of it.
Then I took a couple steps and repeated, moving throughout the gym! (We work out between 7 and 8 a.m. on days there’s no classes at that time, so the gym is nearly empty).
Once I was sweating, we moved on to some squat and weight combinations. I did a series of triceps presses (holding one 10 lb. weight) and shoulder presses (with a 10 lb. weight in each hand) while holding a squat. Whew!
Next up — some heart pumping jump rope!
I did 2 minutes of regular rope jumping (I forgot how tiring jumping rope is!), and then for the last minute, I alternated two jumps of the rope with one push up. This series would be a great thing to do when on the road since the equipment is so packable!
Next up — more weights, but with the bags involved!
First, Jerome had me hold 10 lb weights over my head while doing alternating front kicks into the bags.
And then I continued with side kicks! Clearly about to fall over in this picture… lol.
Then we moved on to some boxing/self-defense. Useful, AND a great workout
And finally, some ab work, after which… I was totally spent.
Whew! Great way to start the day
I was supposed to do 2 miles on the treadmill after the workout per my half marathon training plan, but I ended up just doing 20 minutes on their elliptical instead. My legs feel great considering I hiked 6 super hilly miles on Saturday and ran 12 on Sunday, but my right calf is really sore, so I didn’t want to push it
(Don’t worry — yesterday was a total rest day!)

LA Boxing looks so fun! Who took all the pics for you? I wish I could afford a trainer – they are so expensive. I feel like I know enough to get good workouts in, although I’m not quite as motivated.
Their other staff members that are working when I’m there take the pics
I wish we had an LA kickboxing! What a great workout.
Nuts, I was definitely hoping to win those PB Bars. Oh well, maybe I will just have to make some myself!
Hope you are having a great week Anne!
Wow! I am really impressed! That’s a butt-kicking workout. Most impressive! (And I think you should send Lauren some PB Bars!) Stay fired up!
Woo hoo! I won some granola bars!!

This looks so fun!! I love switching things up, it makes working out muucch better. I want to find a boxing place by me, I think I would love this!
Your workout looks amazing! How many people smile when they are working out?!
What a workout! I totally agree – cancel your golds gym and stay with LA boxing. I’m totally jealous there is not one in VT.
I gave your workouts at LA Boxing a big shout out at my blog. I’ve enjoyed those posts sooooo much. When I read them I just want to go out and do something fun. Keep it up.
Aw thanks girl!
I’m so glad to hear I’m inspiring you!
Wow, that workout makes me tired just reading it! Go Anne!
My cousin did a really intense circuit-training workout with me a couple months ago and I could not walk for 2 days. It’s so great to have someone coach you along – too bad Pittsburgh doesn’t have an LA Boxing!
This looks like a seriously hardcore workout. I’m impressed!
