Farewell, CrossFit Dupont!

Last night Matt and I went to our final class at CrossFit Dupont! I’m sad to say they will be closing their doors at the end of the week – they’re in the heart of Dupont Circle and I guess their lease was up and they weren’t able to renew for a reasonable rate. Bummer! They had a big crowd for every class we went to so I’m sure a lot of others are disappointed, too.

I leave for UNC later today so we wanted to make sure to get in one last class before they close up shop. Last night it was! It was a fun, hard workout – I’m glad we went. Good last hurrah!

We did a bunch of good stretches and then worked on squats. I’m still working on shoulder mobility so I just used the 45 lb barbell. I’m happy to say I’m getting better – my form is definitely improving! Hopefully soon I can start doing a little more weight.

After squats, it was time for the workout!

Complete 2 rounds for time:

  • 50 Dumbbell Push Press (I used 15 lb. dumbbells)
  • 15 Broad Jumps

The kicker, though, was that anytime you needed to take a break from the dumbbell push presses, you had to do 5 burpees before you could rest. This was a HARD workout! I usually ended up doing 10 to 15 push presses before taking a break.

Thanks for the great workouts, CrossFit Dupont! Matt and I will miss you. :) We both want to keep doing CrossFit a couple times a week, so I think we’re going to look into Arlington area CrossFit boxes. If any of you locals know any good ones, please share!

As for today, I got in a great 4.5 mile run this morning with some friends and now I’m gearing up for the drive down to Chapel Hill, NC! If you’re just checking in, I’m finishing up a Masters of Public Health at UNC-Chapel Hill (was doing dietetic internships up here in the DC area since finishing coursework in May) and this week my classmates and I are all convening at school again to present our masters papers! I can’t believe after 3.5 years my journey to become an RD and get my masters is almost over. The only thing remaining after I’m done with school will be to take the RD exam in late January!

I just enjoyed some Pumpkin Pie Oatmeal (click for recipe – one of my faves!) and now I’m off to practice my masters paper presentation a few times and finish packing up. After lunch, I’m hitting the road! Excited to be back in my old stomping grounds again. :)

    Good luck Anne! I absolutely love those t-shirts – the unicorn is priceless. Too bad Crossfit Dupont closed before I had a chance to “fit crash” it, but I had fun reading all of your recaps. Hope you have a great trip to Chapel Hill!

    A friend from my “box” (I hate that term—I just call it my “gym”) here in CO just moved from Arlington, and she loooved CrossFit South Arlington. Give it a try!

    OMG Anne, I can’t believe it has been 3.5 years. Wow how time goes by. Sorry the CrossFit Dupont is closing. Get used to it, there will be more and more businesses closing the next 4 years. Good luck in UNC. Can’t wait to hear how you did.

    Can’t believe how fast 3.5 years goes once you get started! :) I have been debating back and forth as to whether I would like to go back for my master’s and everytime I read your posts I feel more and more encouraged!

    I still need to try Crossfit! It seems pretty intimidating, but I do like how you more or less compete against yourself rather than others in the class.. Seems less intense!

    Sounds like an intense workout. This morning, I did my Deck of Cards workout–no equipment, small space, but I was really sweaty and out of breath as I pushed to complete the whole thing in 20 minutes!

    WOW 45lb is a lot! I just increased to nearly 30lbs and my quads are feeling it today!! slowly working my way up to heavier weights. Such a shame that they have to close, I think gyms should be subsidised by the government to promote exercise so they can keep the membership costs down!

    I’ve never been to CrossFit and don’t know where you guys are but my friend loves her CrossFit in North Arlington, it’s called Patriot CrossFit. I might have to check out this CrossFit place in CC though b/c that’s right near me.

    That workout sounds hard but great! doing burpees before a break would definitely work anyone out hard!

    And good luck with your Master’s presentation! I have several friends presenting theirs this month too; all those years of work is going to pay off!

    You should try CrossFit Rosslyn with me! You’re a lot more advanced at CrossFit than I am from my two weeks stint haha but it’d be fun! I can also tell you about Ballston’s box if you want, too.

    Hi Anne, I lived in Arlington for years but recently moved to Alexandria. I went to CFA (Crossfit Arlington) for a couple of years and loved it. They’re located in a MMA building so they also have MMA, kickboxing, yoga, and even have bootcamp classes if you’re interested in trying any of those. Your best bet might be to try out the different boxes in Arlington since there are so many and see which you like best!
