Forearm Balance Success

Exciting news – yesterday at yoga I did my first forearm balance in nearly 3 years (since getting pregnant with Riese) – whoa!

edge yoga arlington

I was at my old fave Edge Yoga in Arlington – the instructor, Rebecca, is one of my faves because she’s great at challenging you to try new and different poses (but in a positive, uplifting way).

I hadn’t even bothered to try forearm balance since Riese was born because I just assumed I couldn’t do it anymore – well, what do you know! It was a really small class so we all moved our mats to the walls and practiced forearm balance at one point, and after a refresher on form with Rebecca, I was able to pop right up!

I used to do forearm balance without the wall right there, but for now it was helpful to have the wall just in case. I was excited I was able to balance in it for awhile, though!

Other fitness fun from the weekend was a great run date with my friend Karen – thankfully we had our run date on Saturday in beautiful weather vs. Sunday when it poured ALL day long!

We met up at Hains Point and ran around the tidal basin before hitting up the National Mall. I always love running with Karen and the weather was perfect!

4.3 miles – check! I’m feeling ready and excited for the Marine Corps 10k this coming Sunday. Fingers crossed the rain forecast changes!

When I got home from the run the kitchen was empty except for this plate of leftover bacon – lol! Random/awesome. Thanks, Matt – that was pretty sweet to come home to. 😉

I put it to good use on toast with some cheese, tomato, and fried eggs.

Other fun from the weekend included going to a good friend’s co-ed baby shower (I didn’t get any pictures but Riese, Matt, and I all had a great time), and taking Riese to a beer garden!

We went with a few friends and it’s great because they have a kid play area so Riese was happy and we didn’t have to keep her corralled in a high chair.

Riese and I shared the fish tacos + salad (she just had the cucumber) for dinner, plus some unpictured fries and chicken fingers we all shared as an appetizer at the bar next door because when we arrived the beer garden was wrapping up a private party!

Riese and I also had fun making muffins together yesterday – perfect rainy day activity.

We used the Simple Mills banana muffin mix (<- Amazon affiliate link) and made them with whole milk (instead of water) and added some chopped walnuts and a whole slew of chia seeds to the mix, too.

I like making my own muffins from scratch of course, too, but sometimes a box mix is the way to go and I love that the Simple Mills muffins aren’t super sweet and have a really high quality ingredient list! I just bought some of their pumpkin muffin mix (affiliate link too), too… yum.

Her technique could use a little work, but the enthusiasm was there. 😉

Eagerly awaiting the muffins:

We enjoyed some as a pre-dinner snack once they cooled, and then had them again this morning for breakfast with scrambled eggs and blackberries.

She only ate a bite or two of eggs but loved the muffin and fruit! I took this photo near the end of our meal, hence my plate looking a bit sparse. 🙂

My parents came over for dinner last night which was fun especially because Matt was stuck working; Riese and I liked the company! We had our usual steak and salad.

And that’s that!

Have a fabulous day and I’ll see you guys back here on Wednesday for a new mix and match recipe post – this one featuring, by popular demand: pasta recipes! Stay tuned.

I love how much you let Riese “help” in the kitchen :) Not only is it adorable, she’ll be able to cook for you before you know it! Looking forward to the mix and match, I like that theme! Maybe frittatas or an egg dish next? Congrats on the arm balance, and good luck on the 10k!

Looks like you had a wonderful weekend! Which learning tower do you have? I’m looking for one for my son who is just a few months younger than Riese. I think he would love to help in the kitchen!

Riese did great on putting batter into the muffin tin. I feel like our son is a long ways away from being able to do that. His fine motors skills aren't great. But every kid is so different. I have 2 friends with kids around Riese's age - 1 has great fine motor skills, the other has great gross motors skills, and our son is the chatterbox of the group. Kind of cool to see what skills they gravitate towards (we have been surprised how much our son talks/how many words he knows as boys are usually behind on speech!). Nice work on the forearm balance!! I have never done that and don't know that I ever will!! But it is a cool trick to be able to do that requires a lot of core strength. Way to go!! I'm envious of Riese's curls!!!

I'm envious of her curls too! <3 Riese has always had good fine motor skills (probably from baby led weaning?) but took her time on the talking - she's talking up a storm now but some of her friends were definitely ahead on that front for quite awhile! It really is interesting to see what they focus on first.
