Hopeful

Cheers to having a new President, and our first female Vice President! It feels really good to have a rational and empathetic leader for our country again.

As Biden said during his inauguration speech: “Politics doesn’t have to be a raging fire destroying everything in its path. Every disagreement doesn’t have to be a cause for total war.”

We have a long way to go as a country, but I’m feeling more hopeful than I have in a long time. And how about Amanda Gorman, amazing, right?

Since we last checked in, Matt, Riese, and I discovered a new-to-us trail!

My favorite teal coat is allllllllmost too tight to zip up – probably time to give it a rest until I’m no longer pregnant!

We checked out Turkey Run Park in McLean with our friend Shane. It’s attached to some of the trails we’ve done before (like the Potomac Heritage Trail), but farther north than we usual hike it.

It starts with a reeeeeally long and steep set of stairs to get down to the water – Riese had no fear and I was so scared she was going to fall on her face or tumble off one of the steep edges…

And then you can pretty much hike for ages either direction along the water!

Between it being winter and the fact that the trail is right along the water, we had lots of nice views and opportunities to take offshoots to mini-beaches where we could throw rocks in the water.

It was a really nice hike, minus the long stairs to get back to the parking area – man, I was breathing hard! Stairs get me so out of breath nowadays!

The bump is getting more prominent by the day… this was from 2 weeks ago! I have a pregnancy update coming for you next week, so stay tuned for that! Any specific questions/topics you want me to cover, let me know.

Anyway – I don’t have many eats pictures this week because we ate lots of usual staples, Blue Aprons, leftovers, etc. My biggest craving lately, though, has been roasted potatoes with lots of ketchup.

These got taken to the next level with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese and some chopped parsley once they came out of the oven (they also had salt and pepper on them). Yummm!

And that’s all I have for you today, just wanted to pop in and say hello!

I hope you’re having a nice week, and that you will give some of the new recipes I’ve posted recently a try, like my super easy Peanut Sauce Stir Fry with Shrimp, Healthy Beef and Broccoli Stir Fry, or Instant Pot Vegetable Soup!

I will leave you with a photo of Riese and her best buddy Zara. She’s so obsessed, and Zara is (mostly) very tolerant and patient of her toddler’s smothering form of love. 😉

We are gearing up for another cozy weekend at home with more house projects. Have a good one and I’ll see you back here on Monday with my weekend recap!

p.s. For those of you that have been wanting to try Blue Apron, I wanted to share that they are having a brief flash sale right now. For a limited time you can get $100 off over your first 5 boxes – here’s my affiliate link for the deal!

OK but really, how about that life-sized gold dove that Lady Gaga had pinned to her shirt?

Sharing your joy over a new President and Vice President. I wore my pearls! Love picture of your child and the "mostly tolerant" kitty. Very cute. Thanks for all your great recipes. I know I can count on them.

I think my word for the week has been "RELIEF". We can exhale now. :) I wanted to say that the potatoes look delicious. The picture reminded me that when I was pregnant with my son, I craved anything potato: baked, fried, mashed, potato salad (I would go through carry out windows and buy a quart at a time). It made me wonder if boys = potato cravings. Love your hike pics! I could feel your panic seeing Riese run down the hill toward the water until I saw Matt standing there.

Haha maybe! I can't remember if I craved potatoes as much when I was pregnant with Riese...

I too feel the hope! I am so pleased to see dignity, compassion and empathy returned to our leadership. I also feel grateful to have gotten my first Moderna covid vaccine shot yesterday with my second scheduled in February. My arm is a little sore and I am tired but that is all. I am starting to feel a little excited about leaving my home come March...I literally have left less than 40 times in the past year. Have a nice weekend!

Yes, there is a distinct sense of hope right now, as well as a palpable reduction in drama in our Nation's capital -- not to mention the announcement of coherent and comprehensive plans to combat the pandemic and to alleviate some of the hardship of those most affected by the economic consequences of the restrictions due to the pandemic. All very heartening and encouraging. It would be wonderful to see Congress work together to craft bipartisan approaches to resource and support the White House initiatives, albeit with understandable compromises and modifications. Onward!
