Whirlwind Weekend

Hi friends!

Whew, has it been a busy weekend.

Friday night I went out to a restaurant/bar, Iota, to see a couple local bands play with some friends! It was great — I love live music. We saw a band we like called Juniper Lane (check out their song “Take Me Home”), and opening for them was a band I’d never heard of called Melodime. They were awesome as well — great, high energy performances and good music! (“Twisted Fairytale” and “Portrait” are my new faves!).

Saturday morning, it was time for my scheduled long training run of the week — 7 miles! It was pretty rough. Ashley (my running buddy) was sick so I was running alone, I was exhausted from being out too late on Friday, and my favorite trail was a total mess. Huge fallen branches to hurdle/pick through, large patches of snow and ice to hopscotch on, etc. Oh, and every runner’s nightmare struck around mile 4: I had to go to the bathroom. Like, immediately. GAH!!!! Worst feeling ever. Thank god I knew where a bathroom was on the trail and made it there about a mile later. Relief!! I totally wanted to give up and stop early numerous times, but I knew I needed to finish since the past couple weeks of long runs have been foiled or cut short due to snow. I just kept telling myself I’d made it this far, I could keep going another mile or two. I’m proud of myself for finishing. 🙂 I actually ended up doing 7.5 miles by accident since apparently I can’t do math. And don’t worry, I’m still BFF with frozen peas:

Thank god the left package is no salt added. My knees really care. Lol.

After my run I headed up to Baltimore to see my best friend from high school, Jenny! Here we are at high school graduation in 2000, hehe. We pretty much look exactly the same still… haha 😉

We had lunch and did some shopping and catching up 🙂 I heart her.

And then… it was time for:

The Great Sage D.C./Baltimore Blogger Meet Up!

002

The lovely Lauren organized a dinner for the VA/DC/MD healthy living blogger contingent at an awesome organic vegetarian place up in Maryland called Great Sage! It was seriously delicious, and really fun to meet everyone!

From the left: Aurora, Katharine, Lauren, Matt (a male food/fitness blogger?! gasp!!), Sana, ME!, Ashley, and Jacquie!

We had a great time talking all things food, exercise, and blogs, and of course enjoying the delicious food!

I got the special of the day, which was risotto made with red peppers and artichoke hearts, topped with a nut-encrusted veggie chicken (it was REALLY realistic… weird! I don’t know how they do that) and some truffle oil sauce! Divine:

For dessert, Ashley and I shared the other special of the day — this AMAZING sweet potato pie with a scoop of vanilla coconut ice cream 🙂 I LOVE PIE.

010

Please excuse the flash! You all know how I feel about flash… but in dark restaurants with a point and shoot camera, there’s just no avoiding it, sadly.

After dinner, a bunch of us headed over to Roots Market next door! It’s apparently owned by the same people, and it’s awesome. Basically a cheaper, less crowded Whole Foods! I picked up these beauties:

012

Yummmmmmm.

And some coconut water, which I love. This stuff is so great for after running or bikram (hot) yoga — natural electrolytes! 🙂

014

I was supposed to go out last night to meet some friends for drinks, but I was SO exhausted after my busy day and long run that I passed out at 10 p.m. And didn’t get out of bed til like 8:30 a.m. Oooooops. Apparently I needed some rest 😉

I’m off — studying is calling my name, sigh. Have a good one!

Don’t forget to check in tomorrow morning for my deluxe yoga mat giveaway!

The veggie "chicken" looks great! I've never had it before. I've heard it does taste just the same. How do they do it, I wonder? Awesome job for pushing through on your run...

Congrats on the 7.5 miles! That's so exciting! How great does it feel to know you pushed through even though you wanted to stop? I hate when I have to go to the bathroom in the middle of a run, that's the worst. I want to eat that sweet potato pie right now. It looks insanely delicious!
Knowing how good I would feel finishing the run was definitely what got me through! And regarding the pie... I totally want to eat it again right now, too!! SO good :) -Anne

Nice meeting you the other night, Anne! I'm definitely going to have to bring my wife back to that restaurant; it was so great to have more than two vegetarian options on the menu... Side note: That low-acid decaf coffee that I bought at Roots freaking SUCKS!
Great meeting you, too! Haha that sucks about that coffee! I was wondering how they could make that good... ha! Oh well :) -Anne
