Hello my friends! Who all watched the Super Bowl last night? Matt and I headed over to a friend’s place to watch the action, although I was mostly interested in the commercials. 🙂 What was your favorite commercial? Some of them were a little intense… I loved the puppy one, though – it made me tear up!

Anyway! We had a low key weekend. Workout highlights included an Urban Athletic Club class on Saturday morning (total butt kicker) and a nice solo 6 mile run.

My running buddies were all busy so I decided to go enjoy a solo run instead! I ended up having a great run – I ran a hilly route and kept it casual on pace. No music, just me, the pavement, and the beautiful sunshine. It felt so nice to get out there! I feel like running alone, if you’re in the right mood for it, can be kind of meditation-like. It was that sort of run – very calming and restorative. 🙂

I have quite a few races on the docket for this spring – the DC Rock ‘n’ Roll half, the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler, and the GW Parkway Classic 10 miler. I need to start amping up the mileage – I’ll share a tentative training/long run game plan soon if you guys are interested. 🙂

I spent a fair amount of the weekend getting work done, which was lame but necessary – Matt and I are leaving town on Thursday afternoon to go skiing out west with friends (so excited!!), so I needed to get ahead on work for the week so I’m not stressed on our trip and can take Friday off! On Saturday, I caught up on emails, did some AnneTheRD work (updating my website, etc.), and knocked some other stuff off my to do list. I also did some recipe development on Sunday! Recipe coming soon. 🙂 Stay tuned!

Matt had class all day on Saturday (he’s in a grad program through UVA that mostly meets here in the area on the weekends), but we had a fun dinner out to Pizzeria Paradiso in Georgetown on Saturday night. Salad + pizza + beer = win. I didn’t take any photos, but it was delicious!

Matt and I slept in on Sunday, ran some errands by foot, and then enjoyed an epic brunch feast at home. This was SO delicious:

Pan seared sweet potatoes (cooked in some olive oil with salt/pepper/seasonings), sautéed kale with some really good oyster mushrooms that came last week in our From the Farmer delivery (cooked in olive oil with some garlic), and two fried eggs with runny yolks. YUMMMMM

Matt makes a mean brunch. 🙂

I was up early this morning to head to Urban Athletic Club again – I know, I’m obsessed. It was a good crowd and Andrew taught a fun class, as usual!

I love that it mixes boot camp stuff with CrossFit stuff. Perfect combo!

The biggest highlight of this morning’s workout, though, was that a) my buddy Kathleen joined as well, and b) she brought protein cookies for us to taste-test after class was over. #winning

Kathleen is a regional healthy eating coordinator for Whole Foods, and she was doing some recipe development for some protein cookies they might start offering at some of the local stores. Taste testing? Don’t mind if I do! Our favorites were the Coconut Paleo Cookies, the PB Oatmeal Cookies (similar to my Peanut Butter Power Cookies), and the Paleo Pumpkin Cookies – which reminded me of a non-flour variation on my Pumpkin Cranberry Muffin Tops (super old terrible photo, but delicious recipe). We basically had a picnic on the floor of the gym after class – it was awesome.

I continued fueling up when I got home – on the menu: frozen wild blueberries hiding underneath a Flour Free Breakfast Pancake, plus an unpictured (double – necessary) latte. Yum!

Have a wonderful day, friends!

How was your weekend? Any good workouts/eats to report? What did you bring to your Super Bowl parties? My Healthier 7 Layer Dip was a big hit last night!

I made a flatbread for the first time and brought it to our Superbowl party. It was almost embarrassingly easy to make with store bought Trader Joe's whole wheat dough!

Oh mannn not only did I miss a killer workout with the UAC guys, but I missed a cookie tasting?? NOO! Haha. Also I didn't realize you were doing Rock N Roll! Now I'm even more bummed that I can't do it...we could have done our first race together! Fabio is still planning to run it though so you can bet I'll be there to cheer you guys on. :)

Workouts at the gym look great! The weekend flew by for me, but I did workout both at the gym and at home. The Super Bowl was very intense. Loved Katy Perry at Half Time.

Great work on the 6-miler, Anne! You are upping the mileage slowly but surely. And neat workout at the gym, too. Looks like a terrific place! As to workouts recently -- an awesome ride on "Zwift Island," a digital island around which one rides on a road bike set up on an indoor bicycle trainer like the Wahoo Trainer, wirelessly linked to the Zwift Island, on which dozens of other cyclists are typically peddling! You would love it!
