Healthy Dairy Free Breakfasts

Breakfast seems to be the time of day when dairy is most often on the menu, but all of these recipes are dairy free, and are all easy to make (key for my family) and super delicious (also key).

Enjoy!

Dairy Free Pancakes & French Toast

Almond Flour Banana Pancakes

stack of almond flour banana pancakes with banana slices and maple syrup with a fork

These fluffy gluten free pancakes are made with almond flour for a delicious breakfast the whole family will love! The batter is made in a blender, too, so these come together with barely any effort.

Just be sure to use vegan butter or coconut oil for greasing the skillet when cooking these to keep them dairy free.

Almond Milk French Toast

stack of french toast made with almond milk, topped with maple syrup, berries, and sliced almonds

Almond milk gives this easy french toast recipe a lovely hint of almond flavor, and eliminates the need for any dairy at the same time!

I’ve always been a huge french toast fan and this recipe is no exception.

This dairy free french toast is quick and easy to make, and you can add all your favorite toppings (like maple syrup, fresh berries, and/or sliced almonds). You can use any bread you have on hand, too. It’s super flexible!

Banana Pumpkin Pancakes

pumpkin pancakes topped with chopped nuts and greek yogurt

These pumpkin pancakes are the perfect fall breakfast or brunch recipe! They’re naturally sweetened with banana, and are deliciously spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.

They’re basically pumpkin pie in healthy pancake form! And a bonus is that my kids love these pancakes, too.

Banana Protein Pancakes

banana protein pancakes with fresh berries and sliced almonds on top

This is one of my favorite OG recipes, and one we make all the time because it’s another favorite of my kids (and mine, too)!

We make the microwave version (there’s also a stovetop variation in the post) at least a few times a week. In the mornings my two year old always says: “nana pancake! nana pancake!”

These banana pancakes are easy to make and protein-packed, so they’ll keep you satisfied all morning long. Plus, they’re flour-free (gluten free), dairy-free, kid-friendly, and sweetened with bananas (no refined sugar)!

Baked Breakfast Recipes

Peanut Butter Oatmeal Raisin Power Cookies

vegan peanut butter power cookies on a wire rack

Who doesn’t love cookies for breakfast?! These oatmeal power cookies are packed with peanut butter, raisins, ground flax, and more goodness. Plus, they’re sweetened with maple syrup, so there’s no refined sugar.

Prep a batch ahead of time and enjoy them all week long! This is another family favorite that I love is more nutrient dense than the norm.

Berry Quinoa Bake with Lemon

Have you ever had quinoa for breakfast? It’s a fun way to mix it up from oatmeal!

Bright and zesty lemon pairs with flavorful berries for a slightly unexpected – yet delicious – breakfast bake made with quinoa. Just be sure to use almond milk (or another non-dairy milk) to keep it dairy free.

This is a perfect meal prep breakfast, and you can use frozen berries, so it’s great for any time of year.

Vegan Zucchini Muffins with Lemon

Lemon zest adds the perfect extra touch to these healthy zucchini muffins. They’re made with whole wheat pastry flour, applesauce, shredded zucchini, and chopped walnuts for a nourishing and flavorful breakfast muffin.

This recipe is a great way to sneak some veggies in in the morning, too!

Healthy Peach Muffins

dairy free peach muffins with a peach slice on top

These healthier muffins are dairy free, gluten free (made with oat flour and almond flour), and studded with bits of juicy peaches!

They’re especially perfect for summer, but you can make them anytime. Or, you can use apples in place of the peaches!

Vegan Strawberry Scones

vegan strawberry scones

These crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside strawberry scones are easy to make and happen to be vegan, too. They’re perfect for any occasion, whether it’s a cozy weekend morning or a holiday brunch.

Plus, they’re more nutritious than typical scones, thanks to the whole wheat pastry flour (I promise you won’t even notice the difference)!

Cranberry Orange Bread

sliced bread with an orange and bowl of cranberries

This cozy fall bread is packed with deliciousness, from the dried cranberries to the bright orange juice and crunchy pecans. It’s healthier than typical quick breads, but just as tasty and packed with flavor!

It uses coconut oil or canola oil in place of butter, and there’s no milk, so it’s dairy free!

Vegan Carrot Cake Muffins (Whole Wheat)

whole wheat carrot cake muffins

This is a healthier version of carrot cake in muffin form, and believe me when I say you will love it!

These lightly sweetened, whole wheat muffins are deliciously spiced and so comforting. The perfect autumn breakfast recipe! It’s one of the earliest recipes from my blog and still a favorite.

Dairy Free Oatmeal & Chia Pudding Recipes

Carrot Cake Overnight Oats with Coconut Milk

oatmeal in a jar with a golden spoon

This is the best meal prep breakfast for a hot day (or if you’re craving carrot cake)! These overnight oats are packed with carrot cake flavor, and made with coconut milk for a super creamy texture.

Shredded coconut enhances the coconut flavor even more, and walnuts add a lovely crunch and nutty flavor.

Mango Chia Pudding

mango chia pudding with coconut milk and strawberries

This bright and creamy mango chia pudding is made with coconut milk for a delicious (and super easy) dairy free breakfast.

The tropical flavors are especially perfect for summer, but this can be enjoyed year-round (just use frozen mango and thaw it beforehand)!

Almond Milk Overnight Oats with Berries

overnight oats in mason jars

One of the best (and easiest) ways to make overnight oats dairy free is to use almond milk! It adds a delicate almond flavor and is the oats come out just as creamy as regular milk.

Mixed berries and sliced almonds are delicious toppings, but you can really add anything you want!

Coconut Banana Chia Pudding

chia pudding in a glass jar with sliced bananas, raspberries, and flaked coconut sprinkled on top

This is another variation of my mango chia pudding, but made with bananas instead! It’s a delicious meal prep breakfast that will keep you full until lunch.

Plus, it’s super versatile – you can add any toppings you want! Try it with a swirl of peanut butter or almond butter.

Savory Oatmeal with Eggs

If you’ve never had savory oatmeal, you’re in for a treat! Jammy eggs, peppery arugula, creamy avocado, and sautéed mushrooms make a tasty addition to your morning bowl of oats.

There’s no milk in this oatmeal recipe. Just leave out the optional parmesan cheese to keep it dairy free!

More Breakfast Ideas

Watermelon Rind Smoothie

This super frothy fruit smoothie features some of the best summer fruits: watermelon, strawberries, and peaches! It also has bananas for added creaminess. A little fresh mint adds a delicious hint of minty flavor, too.

You can use any non-dairy milk in this smoothie recipe, or swap it out for coconut water!

Avocado Strawberry Toast with Balsamic Glaze

If you love avocado toast as much as I do, you definitely need to try this balsamic strawberry variation! It’s a perfect combination of sweet and savory, and only takes a few minutes to throw together.

Plus, the only cooking involved is toasting the bread. So easy!

Breakfast Quinoa Bowl with Coconut

Similar to oatmeal or chia pudding, this breakfast quinoa uses coconut milk to make it super creamy.

Shredded or flaked coconut and sliced almonds are fabulous toppings, but you can add anything you like to this satisfying and healthy breakfast!

Hummus Toast with Smoked Salmon & Soft Boiled Eggs

hummus toast with lox and egg

Creamy hummus, savory smoked salmon, and soft-boiled eggs make the perfect toast toppings! This simple breakfast is protein-packed and super flavorful.

Plus, there’s no dairy, and you can make it gluten free by using gluten-free bread!

I hope these dairy free breakfast ideas help inspire you to switch up your breakfast game. 🙂 Enjoy!

Why does it matter if something has no refined sugars? Doesn't the body process sugars the same way regardless of their source?

Yes, sugars will all end up being processed the same once they reach the small intestine, but there is a difference in terms of breakdown speed in the stomach and the resulting blood sugar spike (or not). For example, sugar coming from fruit will be broken down more slowly due to the fiber that is also present in fruit, and that means the blood sugar spike will be slower and less steep. Refined sugars will be broken down more quickly, leading to more of a blood sugar spike. I certainly don't suggest people stay away from sugar altogether (not realistic!), but it is helpful to pair sugar sources with something that has fiber, protein, and/or fat so blood sugar remains more steady/stable vs. a big peak and then crash. I know some people look specifically for recipes without refined sugar so I figure it's helpful to note that on occasion if applicable!
